Re: This AWFUL Bug...Explained!

I agree with you. I did in fact see the post and it was helpful.
Why is there post after post about some Bud Girls that are young enough to be your grand daughters on here but we can't have one...

Re: Air Cleaner Mystery!!

I've seen similar versions of this. Yep, after-market as some have suggested. These seemed to have become common place when our old Fords were starting to have some serious blow-by and were just...

Re: 39 Mercury trans cover/shifter seal?

Funny! I did restore a '39 Merc convertible a number of years ago. Why no more than that? I guess I have always adored the '39 - '40 Fords and they just kinda "happened" in regard to my exploits.

Re: 39 Mercury trans cover/shifter seal?

I can't claim any expertise with the Merc's. However, the Ford mats did not have a hole in them for the clip(s). I've had a number of authentic mats, even a couple of NOS (service parts). The...

Re: 39 Mercury trans cover/shifter seal?

There was no seal or gasket between the mat and the floor board. If there was something there in your car, someone added it.
Two clips held the mat in place - nothing else. One on each side of the...

Re: 1932 air filter

Wow! Interesting indeed. I'd never had thought the filter would have caused the issue.

Re: rear window replacement

Zeke, this is an easy one.
Cut the old rubber seal with a razor. That'll make it easier to remove the glass, etc.
Once you have the body surfaces cleaned up, it's time to install the new glass....

Re: petehoovie???

Thanks. I recall seeing those girls. I thought they were perhaps his grand daughters - they appeared to be around 14 years old.

Re: petehoovie???

Apparently I have been around longer than I'd recalled. The ol' memory bank ain't what it used to be by any measure.

Re: Question on 1936 Rumble mat fit

Thanks Gary.
As I tend to look at these posts through the eye of a restorer, I do my best to answer from that perspective and not "muddy the waters".
I've seen too many times guys on the concourse...

Re: petehoovie???

That answers why I don't know this guy. I joined in May, 2010 - not prior to that.
And, of course if I knew the answer I would not have posed the question.

Re: Question on 1936 Rumble mat fit

And therefore it is not original but rather a replacement part.

In this case "original" is defined by what was installed in the car at the time of assembly.
No doubt your mat was made by Ford. ...

Re: Seat springs: paint or no?

Yes Dave, of course you are correct. They were painted originally and if not necessary to do so, I doubt ol' Henry would have bothered.

Re: Seat springs: paint or no?

Gary, you are one of a select few that actually do the proper thing in places folks can't readily inspect.

I feel blessed. My wife appreciates my hobby. She has her horses - I have my cars.
We are both driven to achieve perfection in our respective hobbies. So, although vastly different (hobbies) the...

Re: Wiring Dash and instrument cluster 1940

Probably no big surprise to many of you but (against popular opinion) I'd suggest installing the harness with the dash in place. Yeah, remove the seat.
Of course, much depends on agility.
If the...

Re: My wife hates crankshafts...

It hurt a little but just last week I threw a number of nice prewar cranks away. I got tired of looking at them and no one seemed to want them for just the cost of shipping.

Re: Question on 1936 Rumble mat fit

So, when you bought your car it was about 35 years old yet you are 100% certain it had the authentic mat. Hmm. Methinks maybe, maybe not.
I'd like to see the engineering drawing - then we'd know for...

Re: Radial tires on old rims

You're going to get a lot of vastly different opinions here.
Me? I think radials look like poop. But, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Radials are much heavier and as such, unless you're...
