Maybe some one posted this and I missed it. It looks to me like there wasn't enough thread on those bolts and they tightened up before clamping the main.

As mentioned they could have bottomed out...

I have put many miles on my two cars, a '34 Cabriolet and '34 5w Coupe. They both have a 276 cu flat, 400jr cam in both. I've been very pleased with the 3:78 Columbia in both cars.
