Re: How do you walk into NAPA to buy 40 Ford Parts?

My business only performs service and repairs to antique and vintage cars.

When I would call the normal parts stores I deal with and say, I need this part for a 1949 XYZ, I would get the OOHH NOO...

Re: 1949 Ford pass car serial number locations

Van Pelt only shows one on the body for 49 Ford. Does not reference any on the frame.

1949 Ford pass car serial number locations

I know there is a serial number stamped in the right front frame horn near the cross member.
Are there any more stamped in the frame elsewhere like on earlier frames?

Re: T5 Shift Problems

Does it grind while shifting into reverse? If so, then the clutch is not fully disengaging.

That can also make it more difficult to shift into forward gears also.

General rule of thumb in...

Re: Seeking to learn

The Van Pelt test really says to release the clutch and count to 20 slowly?
So is that like 20 seconds?

That seems like an awful lot of time to wait to get the clutch disc to stop turning and...

Re: Merc-O-Matic / fluid in torque converter

Re: Merc-O-Matic / fluid in torque converter

There is nothing really any harder about rebuilding Ford cast iron transmissions compared to other transmissions.

Problem is finding someone familiar with them as they are somewhat primitive in...

Re: Merc-O-Matic / fluid in torque converter

In my shop, we always put at least 1 Qt of ATF in the torque converter for lube, during initial startup and lube the pump bushing with assembly lube.
Yes the converter will fill fairly quick but...

Re: Flathead intake manifold recomendations

Not sure on the 1932-1948 Offy regular dual manifold but on the 1949-1953 Offy regular dual manifold the generator mount is offset to the left 3/4" to help the generator clear the carb. Might be...

I have seen a lot written about this but no explanation of how it accomplishes it.

I am confused with how adding or removing shims to the fuel pump increases or decreases fuel pressure.

It...

Re: new guy with two flathead questions, if I'm allowed
