Backing plates may be worn where the shoes ride . Backing plates are bent . Check the wheel bearings adjustment. JMO.

Try and try again with the vice grips. I hope you will get it. Just try and turn the bolt a smidge one way and the other. Be patient . JMHO

I spent all day cleaning it. It is Brass not S/S I think it had 80 years of tarnish on it . Guess it was used at some time because there was a few spots that burned the brass.

Hi Tinker I remember adjusting the carburetor just as you posted but also listening for the highest sound of it sucking air. That was in the 50s. Yes Longer Duration does lower vacuum.

My 53 Merc. EAC has no windage tray but a baffle around the oil pump. That is the part of the pan that is bumped out. Wow there is a lot of different pan configurations out there. Good luck Kube .
