Re: Engine hesitation

If you close the choke slightly and the hesitation gets better, you pretty well know that it's a lean condition due to accelerator pump issues...

Re: Cool Carb Heat Shield Experience?

All will help the problem of heat soak - some more than others.
You can make your own reflector/deflector quite easily using a carb base gasket as a template for the holes. Just having the two...

Re: 33 Radiator Installation

Looking really nice!
I swear that these cars are all built around the radiator and grille shell....

Re: Engine hesitation

Sounds like the accelerator pump is not functioning... Sometimes - depending on the carb - the leather cup on the pump plunger dries up and refuses to start working again. Ethanol in the fuel...

Re: Serious question

Bob,

Can you put a floor jack under the oil pan to support the engine, then remove the motor mount cushions, then lower the engine? It may give you just enough room. You might have to loosen the...

Re: Serious question

I've left the pressure on my welder gauges for ~30 years between uses and never suffered a problem.

Re: Serious question

One other thing about electric senders I've found over the years ---
The sender itself requires a good ground.
The only way to get a good ground to your engine is to NOT put any thread tape or...

Re: 36' lug pattern not wide five.

Well that sucks..... Too bad he could not have been more honest with you - but you did the right thing. I think I would have given him a half-price offer and then rolled if he passed on it..

Re: Serious question

Bob,

I would wager that the sender has had a diaphragm failure internally.
I would get down to your local auto parts store and purchase a cheapo mechanical guage and install to verify you have...

Re: Picture of my 32 Junker

Sounds like a good plan!
We're all (well most of us) slowing down a tad.... Make sure you ventilated that shed before you start painting in there... You'll need those lungs a while longer... ;)

Re: 50 Merc Brake Improvement

Good tip above..
Also I've found great value in the time and small expense to install brake line residual valves. Keeps the pedal much higher.
Here are the ones I installed in my car --

Re: Picture of my 32 Junker

This is interesting..
Just a thought for when you get the hankering to do something --
A couple gallons of white gloss latex on the walls of the shed will do wonders for your lighting in there...

Re: Overheating 8ba

Not to be a wet blanket but -- Cracked block and blown headgasket can also cause overheating.
Want to know for sure that she's tight - find some of this online or at your local parts store --...

Re: 33 Radiator

Yeah all the replacement bolt heads I got from Vintique were larger also. Lucky to have a pretty well equipped shop, I turned them down in my lathe. I could have chucked them up in an electric drill...

Re: Compression Test Question

Might be a ring sticking a bit.
I would not put Marvel Mystery Oil directly through the carb myself as it may foul your spark plugs. I would put a couple squirts of SeaFoam or two stroke oil in...

Re: Flooded 39 Ford help 24 inches water

Bubba - I wish I wasn't 1500 miles from you or I'd be right there to help.
Make sure you get the cap off the master cylinder and use a turkey baster or something to suck the poisoned fluid out, then...

Re: Question.

I put Non-Oxygenated fuel in the tank (filler up) along with Sta-Bil or SeaFoam.
I wash the car, treat the tires with Formula 303 and cover it all with a quality car cover and cheap moving blankets...

Re: 1934 school bus

Seriously neat project vehicle. It might be an expensive one to do a spot-on restoration, but building it, replacing much of the wooden top bows and framework with steel would be cheaper and...

Re: Assembling with STP

Pre-Mix Fuel - I guess I haven't heard of that before.. I presume you can get different ratios. Sorry for the thread hijack.
Hoping the tips provided above are helpful. Cam moly and Lubriplate...

Re: Split intake

Good point about the shim possibly causing a stress riser.
If the manifold is plated, we could probably forget about welding.
I thought I learned in school many years ago that hydrogen...

Re: Assembling with STP

I use Lubriplate on all bearing surfaces, Cam Moly on cam lobes and lifter faces, 2 stroke oil on pistons and rings.
The 2 stroke oil is a trick learnt many years ago from one of my mentors by the...
