Re: Securing the exhaust better

On one of my cars, I experimented with a couple of ways to take the weight of the muffler off the manifold. I welded a piece of metal to the pipe just in front of the muffler and put a spring between...

Re: Spark-Lever Posistion

I time my touring engines the normal way, then go out on the road. At a steady 40 mph or so, I advance the timing till I hear the motor start to sound harsh, then back it off a couple of notches to...

Re: front brake operating shaft

I'd build it up and bring it back to the correct dimensions. Every little bit of wear on the brake system detracts from its performance and there will one day, be an event when you need all the...

Re: Zenith 2 float level

Werner, You must have the very rare two handed car!
I have set myself the task today to dismantle the carby and clean out everything. I'll let you know what happens. If I can't get it right, I'll...

Re: Bubble balancer from HF?

I made my own balancer. I welded an old stub axle to an upright madefrom scrap metal and mounted a hub on it with used bearings (no pits) and a little OIL. It turns very freely. I put the wheel on it...

Re: Zenith 2 float level

Would the bottom half of a Zenith 1 work? They certainly look very similar. What is the difference between the two?

Re: Zenith 2 float level

Thanks for the response, Bob. I had the manifolds surfaced as a pair before assembly. The carb alignment is good. Puzzling!

Re: Searching the name of an axis-component

The ball wear at the top. I tried one of those kits but in no time, the shims ended up under the ball, not on top of it. I thought it was useless.

Re: Searching the name of an axis-component

I just repaired one of those. I made a guage with a 1.5" diameter hole in it, then built up the worn pat of the ball with weld. I used an arc welder and fed in some extra metal as I welded to build...

I have just put together a ute from a collection of bits I had laying around. I took it for its first drive yetserday and when I tested the brakes, the motor cut out. I checked that there is no leak...

Re: LED vs HALOGEN

I just spoke with Anthony Pearson, the LED lights guy here. He said that many people get his email address wrong. It is acpearson@chariot.net.au
Note - it is .net.au, not .com.au.
As I spoke to...

Re: What the...Nokia tyres ???

Weren't the worst of those lousy tubes we had to put up with a few years ago made in Finland? I'm sure it was one of the Scandanavian countries! The problem was, they used recycled materials. Have...

Re: best sealant for head studs in block

You could just put it together as is and put a little radiator leak repair in the cooling system. A few years ago, I was about 1,000 miles from anywhere when I noticed a small leak like yours. A...

Re: What modern points do you use?

My Phaeton had original points in it when I bought it but the block, which was made from crappy muckmetal had begun to disintegrate. The car didn't run properly and the second thing I did to get it...

Re: What modern points do you use?

FWIW, I run modern points from various suppliers. Some look to be fairly doubtfull quality, others good but I won't touch any of them if the contact is not hollow. (vented).
