I've used a body hammer and dolly, tightens them holes right up, if you can get your hand and dolly back there

If it seems stuck, I've seen where people have secured it under the cover plate.
Just remove the cover plate, shift knob and pull it up and off the lever.

What you say about the photos of "wrecked cars from the Model A era" is true.
BUT...that was over 80 years ago, and body rust and metal fatigue can do some really funny things sometimes.

The cowl lace is easy, did my '31, basically just a couple of screws.

Epsom Salt: Epsom salt (magnesium sulfate or MgSO4) can readily be found in grocery stores, home gardening...
