Never had a problem with the Best Graphtite head gasket. Do retoque your head after running and cooling 2-3 times.

I seem to remember Bratton's said to adjust to ⅝" same as Snyder's and Les Andrews. Then Bratton's went to 11/16".

NOW you'll see that Bratton's tool instructions has changed...

The ratchet nut takes a 1⅜" socket. I use a bent up Box End Wrench.

I'm with gary. I would try an Impact Driver with the proper fitting bit. The impact from the driver helps to break loose the fastener while turning it a the same time.

I have broken loose plenty...
