Re: swap car show at Fletcher, NC

I didnt make it this year, either. They were predicting 90% chance of rain the day before, and I had an opportunity to work overtime, so stayed home and made money instead of spending it to buy more...

Re: Fan belt without notches on the underside...

X2. If anybody else reading the thread wants this size belt WITH the notches, ask for a BX-41. They tend to run cooler and last longer when wrapped around a tight radius, at least that the is the...

Re: Mechanic

I think at one point or another, we have all tried to wean the car off that nasty old gas, only to find it won't cooperate. :) Better luck tomorrow!

Re: New parts @#$%^&*!!!

Maybe the picture doesn't do it justice, but it looks like it's touching to me, just a little bit, at the very corner of the washer.
That was the idea of the conical washer, so it could cock and...

Re: Leaking head gasket

I'm not a fan of backing the nuts off before re torque, but if you do choose to do it that way, go half way, say 30lbs, in Sequence, and then on to 55, in the correct order. Like was stated, you may...

Re: What Are Your Thoughts On Using a Honeycomb Radiator?

It's always interesting to me to see what people did to get by, when money was short and times were hard. I'd run it, if it was in good shape. Good luck!

Re: Replies to forum

I cant answer the "where did it go", but I just always use the reply, and not the quick reply, and it seems to work ok. I had trouble with the quick reply, too, so that's why I dont use it. Good Luck.

Re: 1928 Bill of Sale from NJ and converting it to a new title- NJ DMV advise needed

I dont have any experience in your state, so just consider this a bump to the top. Best thing I can say is just call the DMV from a pay phone, and ask some questions.
Good Luck

I hope you make it to a 100, and beyond.:) Thanks for your service to our country, not so many left from your generation.

Re: Never too late

I dont really figure I'll make it to 90, but if I do I hope I still feel like buying another Model A.
Nice story, thanks for sharing.

Thumbs up Re: paint $$

Best paint job post I've seen in a long time. Really brings the amount of work involved into perspective for those that dont know.
I was going to suggest learning to live with a not-so-good paint...

Re: I could not sit idle, have a new project

I think you'd have a lot of fun taking the speedster down to Mason's in November. You and Cotton could set up together.
Nice work:)

Re: rebuilt engine price?

If you're looking at an ad and thinking of buying, the first thing to ask is "Who did the babbit work? "
Some other questions to ask are about the lifters, the valves, what sort of pistons, timing...

Re: Not showing our cars anymore?

The reasons are probably as different as the owners, but I find that I'd rather just get out and take drive. Maybe go to eat, take a little mini-tour of the countryside or something. If I go to a car...

Re: Installing a synchro Ford trans in an A

Unless you're putting in one with overdrive, you aren't gaining anything. Spend one good morning learning to double clutch, it's a whole lot easier and cheaper. Good luck.

Re: Thread size question

X2 on the thread file, it's a very handy tool to have. One thing you can do is to check it with a tap. Lay it alongside the shaft and when you find one that the threads nest perfectly , then you know...

Re: Metal hardening

You are going to get different opinions, so here's mine:
The trouble with hardening a tool like that is you make it brittle, and it will break more easily, instead of bending. As far as being able...

Re: torque settings

Its normal for thing to need retorqueing, especially after a fresh rebuild. The head especially may need it again, before it ever takes a permanent set. Good Luck

Re: "Moon cam"...any information?

I cant help with real numbers, and if Jim Brierley couldnt, well you may be SOL.
I would think if you had a bare block, a dial indicator, and a degree wheel you could get pretty close. I'd do that,...

Re: Towing weight

I've never pulled a trailer w/ a model A, but from just general experience, I'd try to keep it as light as possible.
Getting it going is not going to be the problem, but getting it stopped in modern...
