Re: Help with a Mallory 11A

Gently warmed the body of the distributor with a propane torch and it lifted out quite nicely.

Anyone know of a good source for the points and condenser?

Re: Help with a Mallory 11A

Thanks, by looking at the pictures it should lift out of there. Just have to get it unstuck.

Thanks Jack.

Anyone have experience opening one of these up or photos of the innards?

Help with a Mallory 11A

I have a couple of Model A binder engines that I am starting to work on and need a bit of help with the Mallory distributor that is on one of them.
I have the spring clip removed that holds the...

Re: Fallow up on balance beads

Drove my 29 AA truck for years with no issues with tire balancing. Of course my cruising speed was just shy of 30 mph. This last winter I put in a Warford overdrive and with the increase in speed I...

Re: Oil leaks from around oil pan

Yes go ahead and use it on the pan and engine. Works rather well for removing oil.

Re: Oil leaks from around oil pan

Yup... do this first. Could very well save you a lot of time and effort. Don't overlook the front motor mount bolts. One of them goes into the block and if the threads aren't sealed it can leak down...

Re: Separating Control Rod from Control Arm

Very possible that they have been replaced in the past with a pin made out of harder material. Grinding off one end and driving out will do the job.

Re: Radiator leaking

I'm with Eagle on as you need to make sure that it is actually leaking or not.

You just might be doing what many (most) folks new to Model A's do is to overfill the radiator.

There is a lot of...

Re: Winterizing a Model A

I've read a lot of postings where folks say that. Personally I think that it isn't the glycol that harms the bearings but the lack of lubrication that is caused by the coolant it being either a...

Re: Model A Estate Plans

I tend to tag certain items with a description of what it is and sometimes it's value. This way if it is still around when I'm gone folks will know what it is and hopefully keep it from going to...

Re: torque all head nuts

I wouldn't feel comfortable going over the 65 lbs you have it at now. Going much over 55 really should not be necessary.
I would rather pull the head and switch over to the copper clad gasket than...

Re: Winterizing a Model A

Hi Bill,

Some use straight water in their cars and some use a 50/50 mix of coolant and water. I'm pretty sure that the majority that own A's use the antifreeze mix. I do. Not only does it...

Re: Mystic noise iside a rim?

If you go the route of drilling a hole perhaps spraying a thin aerosol type material that dries hard to catch the loose material and lock it into place. I'm trying to come up with what would do that...

Re: Water in oil/engine

Sounds like a case of not checking torque as often as should have been after a new head installation. If the block is flat too then I would clean it up and put on a new standard copper gasket and...

Re: Steering arm ball replacement

Definitely not OSHA approved. This one has the auto feed option too. Not going to catch me using the auto feed. Nope, no way.

Re: Radiator Overheating

Don't try to pressurize the system with the radiator in place. It is not designed for pressure and anything over a couple of pounds of pressure could very well damage the radiator.
