Re: Now it's junk from Carpenter!

Haha. I was just talking to a coworker on Friday about this. This is apparently how Volvo operates, which I'm guessing is par for the course in the automotive industry. Bean counters, lawyers, banks,...

Re: crank shaft pully

FWIW the distance on mine from the inner to outer most pulleys is 2 15/16". Seems my cobbled up affair was to mimick the factory style pulley arrangement in @jim 35 sedan's pic.

Re: crank shaft pully

This is what was on my C59A engine. The outer (third pulley) was added. It is a wide belt pulley, and center to center of the two factory pulleys is about 11/16".

Re: Blast media

I've used some kind of black oxide (slag?) in the past on a neighbours boat trailer. It was dusty for sure, but we are out in the country so no issues. I really didn't like it either for mild rust,...

Re: Reusing head bolts.

If the bolts aren't too badly corroded, I would reuse them. Mine were in varying degrees of corrosion, and not all were the same manufacturer. Not sure where you can get 48 Grade 8 bolts for $70, as...

Re: NGK plugs

I'll be using the NGK B-6L as well for my mostly stock motor. Only reason though to use it vs the Autolite 216 was the fact that it has the removable terminal nut for use with hook style plug wires...

Re: Spark Plug reach into head - Is this normal?

I found the original Champion H11 plugs. I torqued both the Champion and NGK to about 21 ft-lbs. and they about the same to me which is good.

Re: Flatheads breaking off engine stands and falling.

Cast irons are weaker in tension than steels. They are brittle with virtually no ductility and thus are prone to sudden breaking. In any failure, typically there are multiple factors that contributed...

Re: Wd-40

There is a Part 2 where he tests more products. I'm a fan of Seafoam which did very well.

Re: Wide 5 Artillery Wheels

Sorry, that's hat I meant. Someone has been trying to sell a nice set of 4 wheels for over a year now for only CAN$250. Problem is he is 6 hrs away one way. I didn't look hard at Hershet this year,...

Re: Wide 5 Artillery Wheels

I was thinking of using these as well, but isn't the issue finding decent hubs?

Re: Bring back auto mechanics class

Spark Plug reach into head - Is this normal?

I have a C59A with C7RA-A heads. I had purchased NGK B-6L plugs which is the recommended one for my year flathead. These are equivalent to the Autolite 216. The reach is listed as 7/16" (11 mm)....

Re: helmet dist wiring

I just noticed that the driver's side has an"extra"? Hole on the inside. Was this used for anything?
