Re: Mitchell in a 37..Report

Thanks for the feedback on speed/rpm. Judging from your ratio/tire/speed information, you evidently have the 36% gearing in the Mitchell.

Re: How did you do the link cords on your LED's??

It looks like your lights are hanging from chains. If so, measure the correct distance to cut the PVC, then just push the lights apart to insert the plug. The only problem is cramming the extra cord...

Re: 1954 Mercury Yosemite Yellow Touch Up Paint

I had a local automotive paint store scan the blue paint on my car. They made me a small jar with a brush in the cap and a spray can. The match was perfect. The scanner was portable, so they can take...

Re: Swap a 59ab flathead on my 49 shoebox

He really needs the '49 transmission because the clutch equalizer bar bolts to it. I suppose a bracket could be made to adapt to another transmission if justified.

Re: Mitchell overdirve in a 37

I would be interested in which ratio you chose, your rear end ratio, and your opinion of the gearing when you have given it a test.

Re: Vintage Mustang Form ?

I'm not a member there, but I just clicked on a thread and was able to read it clearly. It even showed the pictures that some forums don't if you aren't logged in.

Re: What were the chances!

That is a rare find! It makes me wonder if anyone with the family name Gell still lives on Marvel Street in Swansea.

Re: Dtill a hole in the floor?

There should already be a knock-out for the kick down switch. Just hit it with a punch.

Re: 1955 t-bird door latch loose

I used these on my '55 and so far, so good. There might be some as good, or better, but they work for me....

Re: Install oil filter

You have an 8BA, so you have the tapped hole above the oil pan for a return. It should not be restricted. The supply from the engine oil gallery is from one of the ports on the rear. The supply line...

Re: What gloves are best for working on car

I rarely wear gloves, except when handling harmful stuff. I dislike laboring to get them on/off and the sweaty hands with them on. When my hands get greasy/grimy I wash them in Dawn detergent using a...

Re: Install oil filter

The process requires drilling/tapping in the oil passages. Maybe not a good idea on an assembled engine unless one has a way to keep chips from ending up in the engine.

Re: Westach 6 volt tachometer review, attn: zoegrant

Years ago I had a BW overdrive in a '57 Ranchero with a 3.89 rear ratio. Out of OD at 60 MPH showed 3000 RPM, in OD the RPM dropped to 2000. There might have been a slight variance in the difference...

Re: Borg Warner R10 Overdrive

It is the BW R10 that was originally found behind 3 speed transmissions of several manufacturers' cars. The shown adaptation is attributed to Lloyd Young, I'm not sure if others did the conversion or...

Re: Westach 6 volt tachometer review, attn: zoegrant

It has been many years since I had a car with BW overdrive, but I could always hear the faint "click" when the relay was grounded by the governor while driving the car. I suppose there are several...

Re: Westach 6 volt tachometer review, attn: zoegrant

If your transmission is free wheeling it is NOT in overdrive and can't "kick down" because it is already in direct drive. I don't think your problem is in the kick down switch. If your solenoid is...

Re: Model A street rod

That kind of work is way above my pay grade! Blows me away! My only complaint is the pictures aren't large enough.

I'm in Star, MS just below Jackson. Do you mind saying where you are?

Re: Westach 6 volt tachometer review, attn: zoegrant

I "think" the voltage drops when in the transmission because the shaft is contained and can't extend, causing the coil that extends the shaft to pull the current down.

I don't know how the...

Has the overdrive ever worked since you had the car?
