I recently bought a driveable project '57 with a 3spd OD transmission. I haven't done anything with clutch hardware since the 70's and don't remember as much about it as I'd like.

Some background...

Re: vibration in my car

Swapping the RF tire & wheel to the LF will likely confirm that the tire itself is defective.
If the wheel spins true but the tire & wheel together wobble when they're off of the car, the tire is...

Cool Hand Lurker
Here's how the original Y-block bellhousing in a pickup transferred rotational torque to the frame, large mounts on both sides, in addition to a solid crossmember under the crank...

Re: Hello folks, first post (here) and new project

You said earlier it's not currently running? I'm not sure how the front dipstick / front sump vs rear sump oilpan conflict actually works in a truck, unless something else has been changed???

Re: Hello folks, first post (here) and new project

What does the crank pulley look like? '55/'57 T-Birds have one that is not used in full-sized cars or trucks. If the engine has a pulley like this one it's from a T-Bird. photos 1 & 2
If you bought...

Re: Just rebuilt transmission

Unscrew the large nut holding the dipstick tube to the pan, that will drain most of it.
Is there a drain plug on the front side of the torque converter? It might be accessible by removing the lower...

Re: Radiator hoses for 55 Fairlane with 312

Here's a link for you, and the fellow fixing the 6v / 12v conversion work.
It was written for '55 T-Birds but virtually all of the info will apply to any other '54 or '55 Ford.

Re: Radiator hoses for 55 Fairlane with 312

Yes, with several bolt-on part differences all the Y-block engine blocks are functionally interchangeable.

Check your favorite local auto parts store for availability. The hoses may easier to...

Re: TBird engine

As 40 Delux mentioned, like all Y-block engines they can develop clogged oil passages to the rocker arms if they weren't maintained well... non-detergent oil and infrequent oil changes.
The 312's...

Re: 239 OHV question

Depending on how the car & battery was hooked up last time it was running, or if the owner would prefer positive or negative ground... the generator needs to be re-polarized.
