Re: Best spark plug

I'm in the minority here, but I put B6L plugs in my 8ba when I built it 5 years/5000 miles ago. It has started missing above 3000 rpm a while back. After checking the distributor, I began ohming plug...

Re: Best spark plug

After they mentioned thread breakage and shell stretching, the statement says " Do not use anti-seize OR LUBRICANT on NGK spark plugs." This makes me think they caution against over torquing the plug...

Re: Overdrive transmissions

the lighting in the first picture of post # 1 is not good, but when I blow up the picture I think I see the clutch boss on the side cover. Have you looked for the boss on the transmission in post #1?

Re: Replacing points on 39 Ford

There have been reports of generators producing voltage spikes that can fry electronic ignitions. I have always found Pertronix to have excellent tech support. A call to them explaining your...

Re: Overdrive transmissions

You will need a transmission with the boss on the shift cover to attach the clutch actuator. They are '49-'51 specific. One of the casting numbers indicates a '68 (C8A). Ford changed bolt patterns on...

Re: '40 coupe trunk handle lock

That is the way they work. I ground the head of a key down so it would fit under the lock cover and leave the key in the lock until I need to lock the trunk.

Re: Autolite Spark Users Only

I use Autolite 216 in my 8BA 276" engine with a Rochester 2G carb. My plugs show a medium brown color. I'm unsure how much effect the rest of the ignition system has on the plug color. Dirty points...

Re: 52 Victoria overdrive

I don't think the governor is the problem. It is actuating the relay like it is supposed to do. It might help to remove the cover from the solenoid and clean the points. Also, all wires and...

Re: problem to start

The vacuum advance should not affect starting and the incompatible carb/dist will seem to run good if in good shape, especially if one hasn't experienced a properly operating system. The centrifugal...

Re: 52 Victoria overdrive

Your OD solenoid has "pull-in" and "holding" coils in it. The pull-in coil requires a lot more current. When your governor energizes the relay, the pull-in coil is using all the current your...

Re: engine analyzer questions

The point resistance scale is only one scale on the analyzer and is disregarded when using other functions. Look toward the top of the meter and see the "8 cyl, 6cyl, and 4 cyl" scales with "dwell"...

Re: Air Conditioning Condenser for an 8BA

Your concern seems to be with airflow that doesn't excessively restrict air through the radiator. I can't definitively answer your concern, but I used a Vintage Air manifolded condenser (instead of...

You have been driving and sorting it over the last few months so you have a good feel for its capabilities. It will do well. Ford built them to run, you just need to get your confidence in it built...
