Re: 12V vs 6V crab distributor

I wasn't wrong. A 12 volt system and coil most likely will require a different resistor or none at all. Of course a given resistor will have the same resistance whether in a 6v system or 12v. The...

Re: 12V vs 6V crab distributor

Resistors may very well be different in a 12v system. That's why Bubba says to change it. Ohm's law dictates. The 12 volt coil determines the resistor needed if any.

Re: stubborn rear brake drum seal removal

Yes, use the right tool for the right job. Any auto parts store has them. They are a hook that snags them on the back side allowing you to pry them up.

Re: recommendation: turn rear brake drums San Francisco bay area ?

Buy new drums. They are not that expensive and good brakes are a life saver.

Re: Replace Flathead with Y-Block?

The 312 wasn't any better. It was the worst of the bunch. The 292 was lousy but probably the best Y block. The 57 312 introduced the Holley spread bore carburetor which was a milestone but a...

Re: Replace Flathead with Y-Block?

I had a 54 Ford Mainliner with a 312 engine. It had the external rocker arm oiler on it but that wasn't enough since it suffered from low oil pressure too. I somewhat solved the rocker arm issue by...

Re: Replace Flathead with Y-Block?

You would be hard pressed to name a worse Ford engine. Y blocks didn't breathe, hard on parts, especially bearings and lacked oil to the rockers. The FE motor in '58 was a big improvement. They...

Re: Replace Flathead with Y-Block?

The Y blocks were the worst engines ever produced by Ford. Go to 302 family or back to a flathead. IMHO.

Re: A Dennis Carpenter Complaint??

When I got a bad headlight switch from Carpenter recently, they sent me another one and did not require that I send the first one back. So no extra postage expense. If they require the old one...

Re: A Dennis Carpenter Complaint??

No supplier better than Carpenter. That's been my experience. You probably don't want cloth where wires are exposed to all the crap splashing around in a fender.

Re: 6volt battery charger

I would stick to 2-6 amps. Faster charging is very hard on batteries. Your smart charger is the only way to go.

Re: Coolant Drain Pitcock Brokern Off

It's all about using the proper size drill and center punching the broken bolt and drilling to the proper depth. Never had an issue. I have also used the fluted type EZ out made by Craftsman. They...

Re: Coolant Drain Pitcock Brokern Off

I would use the Easy Out. They work like a champ. Never saw a petcock in a block. Putting more threads in the petcock isn't going to help because you need to turn it counterclockwise to remove it. ...

Thumbs down Re: Coolant Drain Pitcock Brokern Off

Use an EZ Out and hammer gently to start it. You don't want to hit it hard on a radiator. If necessary, pull the radiator for access.

Re: XM Radio On 6 Volts Positive?

You are VERY perceptive. I already talked to my grandson about making me a zip drive loaded with music. Right on. This radio gets AM and FM too but I don't want to drill the big 7/8" hole in the...

Re: XM Radio On 6 Volts Positive?

The guy that modified my radio says I won't need to do this because the 12v power converter built into my radio, does not interfere with the stock 6v positive ground. It's like magic! It's a totally...

Carpenter Headlight Switch For '40

I bought a new repo headlight switch for my 40 Deluxe from Dennis Carpenter. I also ordered a new knob which came with a short shaft about 1 1/2" long. Problem is, the shaft doesn't fit the switch....
