Simple 2 step process. Sell Sport Coupe, buy Cabriolet. Anything else is like trying to change a coupe to a roadster. A lot of work and you end up with something that is difficult to sell.

The tower needs to match the gears and without a picture there is no way to tell what gears are in there. Remove the cover and get a picture of the synchronizer and post it.

Before you tear everything apart look down into the tank and be sure the float and lever isn't hanging up on something. If you have some scrap brake rods you can cut a couple of feet off of the end...
