Re: Classtique Upholstery

Bruce, I'm chiming in a little late here, but McPherson College offers "summer institute" classes that are like mini versions of their Auto Restoration courses. I know Kansas is a long drive from CA,...

Re: tell a Model A related story

I once got a speeding ticket in my Model A. I used to live in CA and commuted three days a week to work in my coupe, about a 17-mile round trip. To avoid the heaviest traffic, I'd leave early (around...

Re: Poll: Showing or Driving or Both

I sold my A when I moved to Kansas to attend Mac College's Auto Restoration program, but I commuted in it to work (in the CA Bay Area) 17 miles round trip two or three days a week. I think driving a...

Re: The great American race

McPherson College occasionally enters a car and they've won their division twice. I've actually driven the car they use (a 1957 Ford Fairlane) but not in the Race.

Re: Finally done

I had sheet metal and advanced sheet metal with Ed. I certainly learned a lot, though I don't own the tools to continue working in sheet metal on my own (yet).

Re: Finally done

I should have mentioned that anyone driving through the dead-center of the country should let me know. If you're here when the school is open, I could definitely take you on a tour of the school's...

Re: Finally done

Thanks to all...

I currently don't have plans to move back to California. I'm still working for my employer there (a large software company) from my home office and the cost of living and pace of...

Finally done

Hello again Fordbarn Folks. Possibly almost none of you remember me from six years ago, but I've been lurking on-and-off here on Fordbarn since I sold my 1931 coupe and moved from California to...

Re: Navel gazing & the future of the car hobby

Chiming in a little late... I'm a less-regular visitor these days because of school and life...

Anecdotally, there are plenty of kids who are interested in cars. In a class this Spring I saw a...

Re: Yet another another school update

So, it's been like a year (+) since my last update. I'm taking advanced engine rebuilding this semester. There's not a Model A engine to work on (though I've been following along as they rebuild and...

Just to chime in from my current lurking in McPherson Ks...

There are young folks interested in old cars. I'm in classes every day with 20-year-olds who are going to school to learn restoration....

Re: Tunes for my A

I think music is a great thing in the Model A. My favorite for driving was 30's music (of course!) and I have a pretty big collection of old music. I also have a bunch of vintage ads (for things like...

Re: Yet another another school update

You never know... the buildings are mostly made by Pola, and they're designed to stand up to German winters, so they're pretty sturdy. I think the tricky part would be frost heaves.

But part of...

Re: Yet another another school update

I think the Holsman engine is a scotch yoke. We haven't had it apart yet as we're working to rebuild the carb and cast new drive pulleys.

Joe is still teaching electrical. They've added some...

Re: Yet another another school update

I saw that, too. Pretty cool--but you could buy a passel of Model A's for that :D

My stuff is all G gauge (45mm) locomotives. I have a ~200' loop of track in my yard I can steam them on...

Yet another another school update

Just checking in again...

It's now 2016 and lots going on. Have now been in Kansas three years and am just more than halfway done with the McPherson College Auto Restoration degree. It's taking...

Re: Life is too short, use and enjoy your cars

For several years, I drove my Model A to work three or four days a week, back when I lived in the California Bay Area. It's doable--but you're right that you have to be on your toes all the time....

Re: It seems to always come when the regular postman has a day off.

Be thankful if your regular postman sometimes does the right thing. Ours is too lazy to get out of her vehicle--she'll find a way to fold most anything to get it into the mailbox so she doesn't have...

Re: July 23, 1903-The Original Model A Introduced.

Yeah, I think carbon black was first added to rubber tires in 1912 or thereabouts. There's a 1908 Holsman at McPherson college that has black tires and we've been giving the faculty a hard time about...

Another school update

As usual, the school year flew by. I've been following FB fairly regularly, but don't often have much to say. I guess school has put me into lurker mode :) A couple people mentioned that they might...

Re: Security???

I think criminals are, to a certain extent, rational. And I don't expect there are many who "specialize" in antique cars. So if your A is sitting next to a 2011 Honda, they're going to think:

1) I...

Re: Tudor vs coupe-$$$

Others with more experience can perhaps give a more precise answer, but if you're rebuilding the engine and doing a frame-off restoration of the car, don't expect to get the money you put into it...
