Re: A Big "Thank You" to The Mentor

53MERC,

Yours is a worthy quest, it was the least I could do. Enjoy, be safe and take care of the 53', she will bring you allot of joy, as mine has done for me.

See you and Diane in August....

You might want to...

Re: Carpet for 1953 Mercury Covertible

Update:

I did order the carpet set from Stockinteriors.com. They came in late last week, so it was a little over a week from order to arrival.

The quality and finish is great. I did a test fit...

Re: Scammer Alert !

I get suspicious when an add comes up on this site and you contact the person and ask for pictures rather than just a description and they won't provide you with any pictures of the items for sale....

Re: Drive you V8 Day, how many would be intereted

I drove out to the highway and it was closed do to an accident. So the drive was limited to 4 miles. It was fun while it lasted though!

Re: power steering on flathead

On the upside, the 53' truck had electric wipers, where as the cars still had the Trico vacuum wipers. I always wondered if the truck electric wipers could be used in a car.

Re: Holley teapot carburetor leaks after shutoff

If you buy enough cores, you can build a second carburetor for the car, which is what I did. Then if you want to, send Charley or Sal a carburetor to rebuild, and you can still drive the car. Of if...

Re: power steering on flathead

Facroty power steering was first offered in 1953. I installed the factory PS on my 53' Mercury. Once you have everything in the first picture, it will bolt right in. The only difference between Ford...

Re: Holley teapot carburetor leaks after shutoff

If you could post a picture of the area/s where the carb leaks I will see if I have parts for you. You can have them for free, if I have them.

What should the measurement be on the shaft?

Roy

After I posted this, I realized all I have to do is measure the center of the shaft and then the section in the bushing.

Re: Holley teapot carburetor leaks after shutoff

Will do more research though the other threads and see about getting a core with a tighter throttle.

Re: Holley teapot carburetor leaks after shutoff

Causation: Heat build up after you shut off the engine. Welcome to the ownership of a 1953 Mercury with the "teapot" (aka: Holley 1901) carburetor.

Go to the search and type in "teapot carburetor"...

Re: Are Mustangs still collectible?

If you are going to buy one, at least get a convertible. Find one from NM or AZ, Colorado is not bad either.

Re: Carpet for 1953 Mercury Covertible

I have to admit, I have thought about buying a Juki machine ( they are on Craigs list all the time) many times, but figured the learning curve was way too steep, at this point in my life.
