Re: New Radiator, Berg vs Brassworks

I bought a Berg's for my 1930 Tudor. Last summer I took it out on a 118 degree day to see what happened. Drove in street traffic, freeway, etc. Hottest it got was 210 in stop and go traffic. I was...

Re: Need to Ship a 1931 Model A Coupe

I googled "Jim at Truly Vintage" and am blown away by the results.

Re: 3:78 vs 3:54 ring and pinion

I went from 3.78 to 3.54 and am very happy with it. The car happily cruises at 55mph on the freeway and will cruise at 45 in the city like a modern car. I'd recommend the switch to 3.54 or 3.27

I...

Re: Old photo Model A ID help

Thanks, it's looking like it's a '30 Tudor. That's what mine is. Looks like I need to print this picture out and hang it on my wall!

Old photo Model A ID help

I was browsing Instagram and saw a photo of downtown Las Vegas in 1948 and noticed a Model A in the image. Can anybody tell what year it is? What about the body style? It's not a great image and from...

Re: A block color

If the block was soaked in a caustic hot tank, that would strip every bit of paint off of it. The hot tanks in the 50's and 60's were probably pretty amazing.

Re: MAC's Model A parts and Service - Any Good Reports?

I ordered a cam thrust plunger and spring from them for $3.75. Shipping was $18 because they put it in a 12x4x4 box. It arrived quickly and was not damaged.

Re: Hydro dipping headlight reflectors?

Adding to your point, the awesome Bratton's reflectors are $90. That is so cheap that I can't imagine anyone could think there's a better solution. The guys at Bratton's must see posts like this and...

Re: Slightly O/T - Ford "999"

999 is sitting in the Henry Ford museum. It's right out in the open, so I took some detailed photos. I doubt they ever run it

Re: Latest word on Brassworks

A local shop should be able to recore your old radiator. It's very simple. I was going to have a local shop do mine, but they could only get a 6 fin-per-inch core. Berg's is 10 fins per inch. Quoted...

Re: Gaskets

I used black RTV silicone only; no other gasket. It's working like a charm so far.

Re: Opinion on Sears Allstate tires

My Allstate tires had EE97356Y stamped on them. It also has the "BOOL" hubcaps on it. Since those were available in the 1950's and it sat in a garage for 40 years, I'm guessing the tire code means...

Re: Ethanol Free

Why not drive the car there? 12 miles isn't that far. I put about 60 miles on mine early Saturday morning before it got over 105 outside and it was glorious. :)

Re: Enigine work

If you want someone local, take it to Vegas Machine. They've probably done 10-15 Model A engines over the last couple years. I had them machine mine for inserts, replace the valve seats, and also...

Re: 31 radiator

I have a Berg's and couldn't be happier. The fit was perfect and the car runs cooler than ever. It was 114F outside last week and even sitting in traffic the car wouldn't run hot. I pulled over a...

Re: 30 Zenith Carb

I've heard of this happening with bad muffler. A baffle collapses inside and restricts the exhaust flow. It'll start and rev in neutral just fine. Once you put it under a load it has no power. It's...

Re: Removing the Radiator Cap on a 1931 Model A

I've pulled the radiator before leaving the shell on. It's more difficult to remove and install the radiator mounting bolts but you can still do it.
