Acetylene Tetrabromide could well be the correct fluid. The original fluid is called Tetra-bromoethane. And is also nasty stuff. The important consideration is the specific gravity; it must be 2.95....

Indeed, where I work in a printing company, we have big gearboxes that have removable covers for access/maintenance. these covers [up to roughly 12 foot x 10 foot] are assembled back into place...

Quick and easy check; start engine, run at above idle speed [generator won't charge at idle], use a jumper from one side of cut out to the other. See if ammeter reads...Report back

I'll follow this with interest; I fitted '68' advance assembly into my crab; better, but still get knock like your customer. Thinking of drilling holes in the weights next.......

Some Canadian and English rods had the notches for lock in shell type bearings, so they are out there....however, finding the C41A prefix shell bearings to suit is nigh on impossible. Set up...
