Re: Gear oil

A Model A friend swore that 600W was 600 weight oil, until I stopped at a local business that sells heavy lubricants. I asked if they carried 600 weight and was told that the heaviest they handled...

Re: spark plug caps

I don't mind "messing about" especially on these cold winter days. It keeps my mind and my hands busy.

Re: Preferred Vendor for parts?

CC-Mo,
Let us know where you are located. I'm about 100 miles from Snyder's in Ohio and it's a fun drive for a couple of us "A" guys to go, have lunch, and be back in time to put some parts on. The...

Re: spark plug caps

Well, I just finished putting my Spark Plug Caps on my car and they look great. This was a fun project that only cost about six bucks. The caps and the knurled nuts all came from Lowes. When I...

Re: spark plug caps

I really like the look of these caps. I'm on my way out to buy some caps at Home Depot. And these don't affect the plugs or the way the car runs?

Re: Horn Wiring

What DD931 said. Also, either wire can go on either clip. Your car doesn't care.

Re: 1931 - 170B Fordor DeLuxe Sedan

Cape Codder,
I don't think I've ever seen a '31 Blindback. Does it have a slant windshield? Is it a town sedan? Does it have a fold down backseat arm rest? Inquiring minds want to know.

Re: loping engine?

Well, we put the manifolds back on all tight and sealed. We started the car and the loping was back. We tried a different carburetor and the engine ran smoothly. We took apart the original carb...

Re: loping engine?

Yes, Chuck,
We had the manifolds machined to be certain they are flat. We are going to install them this morning and see what happens.
Thanks for the post.

Re: Brake Rod Anti Rattler

The other option to the Smith and Jones flat springs, pictured, are the 1931 style springs. To my mind they work better and I don't think the vibration mentioned will wear them out. They go on the...

Re: loping engine?

Thanks for all the help, guys. We've pretty much tracked it down to a bad gasket. A new one is to be shipped and we will install this week. Will update later.

Re: Don't mess with my quail

I have two friends with quails on their radiators. Both are loose and wobble front to back. I'm not sure they are a good idea. I'll take a motometer every time.

Re: Sea-Foam

I use Marvels in my "A's" gas but have never put in the crankcase. My thinking is that MMO is more of a solvent, and I don't know if I want to add a solvent to my oil. Correct me if I'm wrong....

Re: loping engine?

Thanks for all the suggestions. We will try each of these until we find out what is causing the problem. My friend said the plugs were wet when he checked them after a short run. We closed the GAV...

A friend's Model A has a problem with a loping engine. The car hasn't been run for several months, but was running O.K. last time. Now the engine idles fine but on giving it a little gas it tends to...

Re: 31 Victoria Ampere Meter

KATY,
You know, I thought the correct term was ammeter also, but before I responded in post #3 I looked in the Snyder's book and they called it an "amp meter."
Go figure.
