I too have bent the rod to compensate.... Better brains than I have covered the sagging frame issue. Just do a 'find' in this forum about it. It's the 'Search this Forum' button in the red...

I have the same issue, and I think it is caused by my car's sagging frame. That pulls the steering column down a tad....

I took Archimedes advice and got a two foot steel pipe from Lowes, slipped it over the socket wrench, secured the gear from turning, and slowly pulled on the special tool shown above.....and it...

My camshaft gear striped, and I've read that is not uncommon. It looks like a replacement 'fiber' type. I say replaced, because the connector bolt has chisel marks where someone has removed it in...

Your 'box' in question is the 'terminal box', in Whirnot's diagram. Left-right doesn't matter so much as getting all of the wires aligned on the appropriate side......
