Re: Stupid Question #2: how does an iron frame act as a ground on our cars

Don't look on it as a "ground", look at it as a big conductor hooked to one side of the battery. The critical factor in completing a circuit that works lies in the quality of the connections to the...

Oil cooler for C6 transmission

I am sticking a 302V8 with a C6 automatic transmission in my 1959 F100 pickup. What size tranny oil cooler will I need to put in front of the radiator?
This is for recreational highway and town...

Re: How does a DMV registration number come from?

Werner, the DMV number problem is what the State of California issues. Other states in the USA have different procedures and California's laws are not used in other states. Most of the above...

Re: Sticking windows

Thanks for the ideas. A couple of things come to mind. First, the windows were very hard to crank up when I got the car but they loosened up a bit with use, but not well enough.

I had the glass...

1969 F100 stepside box on 1959 F100 frame?

I have a 1959 F100 Styleside pickup and have found a 1969 F100 Stepside pickup box. Will the 1969 box fit on the 1959 frame?
Is the tread distance the same? Any other problems with this switch?

Sticking windows

I had new glass put in my 47 Ford Coupe along with new channel linings. The windows in the doors worked smooth at first but after awhile they became hard to crank up. Then one of them cracked. ...

Re: Bat piss

I had bats that crawled up behind the corrugated steel siding on a shed. I could hear them scratching on the steel. Some old gas in a hand spray jug got rid of them. All I had to do was squirt it...

Re: Anyone else use rims for blocks?

I think the way Katy uses them with a 14" rim set inside a 15" rim is a lot safer than the junkyard method of putting one upright inside another. With Katy's method they are not likely to shift or...

Re: Anyone else use rims for blocks?

Looks like a good idea. Do you use them for long-term storage? Do the rim edges affect the tires?

Re: pointless ignition

First let me say that I am not an electronics expert. An older friend of mine is however, and he once said that most all of the computers and electronics step down the voltage to 5V from whatever...

Re: Need help planning a site-seeing trip to Detroit

We did a Michigan trip a few years ago and stayed at the Dearborn Inn, where Henry put up his guests. It is walking distance from the Museum and Greenfield Village. The price is higher than other...

Re: steering hangs up in a tight turn.

Joe K, your mention of "fat-man frame syndrome" reminds me to have my frame checked out at the alignment shop. I did that on another Model A a few years ago and there was a lot of straightening to...

Re: Scary ... What the hell happened ?

My front wheels shook at 20 mph too. I jacked up each front wheel and like John, my wheels settled at one heavy spot. I had to put 5.0 oz wheel weights on one wheel and 3 oz on the other one and...

Need outside door handles for 1959 F100

I need both outside door handles for my 1959 Ford F100 pickup. Last owner shaved the doors but quit before the project was finished. I think 1957-60 will fit.

Re: steering hangs up in a tight turn.

Joe, it wasn't the frame that the tire was contacting, it was the brake control rod that is 3-4" from the frame sidewall. I think the problem would be in the mechanism that keeps the wheel from...

Re: steering hangs up in a tight turn.

My 1930 Tudor will make a lot of noise and vibration if I make a tight left turn but I finally found the problem. It was the tire tread rubbing against the brake rod. So I don't make tight left...

Re: Small Parts Spray Paint

Car battery. Positive lead to the part. Negative lead to the paint can. Less overspray.

Interesting thread, I learned a lot about Ford's balancing process. Now if only someone could help us older folk to keep from falling over.

Re: Small Parts Spray Paint

Here is a trick I found to work well. Hook a lead from the positive pole of a car battery to the part to be painted. Hook another lead from the negative pole to the spray can. You can hold that...

Re: Generator output too high.

You might try to install a larger diameter generator pulley to slow down the generator.

Re: 59AB Cooling System Advice Needed from the Experts (not an overheating issue)

Are you putting in too much coolant? I don't think the recovery tank should be too full. Try just putting enough coolant in the system to maintain a small amount in the recovery tank and see if it...
