Re: Roof Drip rail sealer

Several folks here recommended a good product for the application, but I don't remember the brand. I used it in 2017 when I was doing some major body work on this '55. It is available at some chain...

Re: Fender hardware

Shouldn't be a problem using the 5/16"x18 bolts as long as you can get thick fender washers with hole big enough for the bolt.
Round here, all the dealerships received cars that had the famous...

Re: Question for Wagon and Delivery owners

Hate to tell you this, but I re-used my old rubber bushings when I redid the '55 Courier because the repro parts suppliers didn't offer the bushings with the larger holes for wagons. But the old...

Re: 1956 Ford fairlane 4-dr rocker panel install

When I did mine, I had sent the body off to be plastic bead blasted. While it was gone, I sandblasted, cleaned and painted the frame. By the time the body came back, I had the finished frame on...

Re: 56 engine mount

1954 was the first year they started using an aluminum rear extension housing at the rear of the transmission where the rear motor mount is located.
I would be skeptical of removing the front steady...

Re: Fender anti squeak seal?

When I installed the rubber seals on my fender aprons, I used the original staple holes in the metal. Here's how. Begin by laying the end of the rubber at the end of the metal flange. Don't worry...

Re: Air Vent flapper?

Some of the repro parts suppliers are offering the complete reproduced vane with the new rubber sandwiched in-between. During the days when I rebuilt my Courier, it was offered as a complete assembly...

Re: 1955 t-bird door latch loose

These door latch mechanisms can have at least two problems that I have ever noticed.
1) the star-wheel shaft is pressed in on the backside, but I have seem them become loose, so you have to remove...

Re: Fuel Tank Questions for Wagon

I have seen both '55 and '56 wagon tanks removed. The factory did not apply the insulators consistently. Don't worry about how they did it.
As long as you know what the purpose is, you can configure...

Re: 56 engine mount

The engine front steady rest bracket is solidly bolted to the front of the engine. The rubber insulators are located under the bracket and cannot come in contact with the crankshaft damper.
Are you...

Re: Fender anti squeak seal?

When I redid mine, I used the replacement staples that came in the seal kit. But I suppose you could skip the staples and glue them on with the same glue you use to glue the door rubber seals to the...

Re: Y Block Normal Vacuum w/mild Perf. Street Cam?

Not 100% sure about this, but I always thought that the power valve size had to do with the amount of venturi vacuum is expected to open the valve.
The standard size used in the Holley 2100's and...

Re: Fuel Tank Questions for Wagon

I installed my tank without the filler-neck attached. I don't think you could do it unless you had a crane pick up the back of the car, because that filler-neck is so long. Even if you did, it would...

Re: Fuel Tank Questions for Wagon

Those two "C" brackets have "legs" at top and bottom where the bolt-holes are. Those legs seem to be slanted a little bit such that the main web of the bracket slants toward the rear at the bottom....

Re: Y Block Normal Vacuum w/mild Perf. Street Cam?

If I remember correctly, normal intake manifold vacuum at idle for a Y-block should be somewhere between 19 - 21".
First thing that comes to my mind is valve lash adjustment. You want to hear just a...

Re: Fuel Tank Questions for Wagon

As far as the tank mounting insulator strips, I say this:
The purpose for them seems to have been reducing noise and friction between top of tank and bottom of spare tire hide-away compartment.
The...

Re: Fuel Tank Questions for Wagon

The factory wiring goes like this:
Power wire to (+) side of fuel guage, then switched wire from (-) side of fuel guage to the sending unit push-on terminal. That is all. The factory did not include...

Re: Fuel Tank Questions for Wagon

As far as the insulating pads between tank and floor, the factory may have applied the strips in various ways depending upon how the tank fitted.
I was a little creative when I installed my repro...

Re: Fuel Tank Questions for Wagon

The '55/56 wagon models have a tri-pod mounting arrangement for the gas tank.
At the front, there are two "C" brackets. Each has two bolts at top and two bolts at bottom. At the rear there is one...

Re: Spin on oil filter for Y-block

Somebody at a Ford dealer told me back in the '70's that the spin-on version was made available in 1957.
But I can tell you this; I must have a really old one, because it is stamped of at least 16...

Re: carburetor problem

As far as cleaning off the carb mounting surface flat again, I have used several techniques successfully before, but you gotta be careful.
1) A small wire brush can be used to fray any paper stuck...

I don't know what you mean by "manual choke no fast idle setting", unless you mean that it is not adjustable. That is true. But the fast-idle cam on the choke actuator lever, although it is...

Re: carburetor problem

The modern gasket kits for the Holley 2100/2110 (you have a 2110) come with nylon gaskets for the float bowl drain plugs as well as the thin phenolic gaskets. I personally don't use the nylon gaskets...

Re: 292 Y Block Electronic Ignition Conversion Advice

I looked at that one too, but it is only available for '57 and later distributors and with 12-volt electrical system.
I am still using '55 Load-o-matic distributor and still have 6-volt system.
