I agree with Brent, plus gas mileage goes up with higher compression. Compression and a bigger carb are the two quickest and easiest ways to more power, cam is next but not near as effective per...

Sounds to me like rods or wrist pins are on the loose side. Any other noises are not usually at the no-load position. 26* with a stock head is well within limits.
