Re: OT trip to England

Lots of neat places. Imperial War Museum in London, the Cutty Sark at Naval War College, close to Greenwich Royal Observatory and Prime Meridian, Canary Wharf for restaurants and shopping. Take the...

Re: Stripped Model A engine block weight = 95 lbs

When I was 16 years old, I maybe weighed 135 pounds., I tossed 70-pound hay bales all day long, stayed out until the wee hours, got up early and went right back to tossing bales. Now 77 and have to...

Re: Engine Install

Rotating the wheel works but I find it much easier to just put the transmission in neutral.

Re: Welding Rear Springs

With all due respect, Model A Fords can be money pits, but these are our babies, just like our pets. You adopt a puppy and then he gets plugged up because you left your socks on the floor, then...

Re: New to A's...

Bingo, that covers a lot of sins, one being intermittent weak spark. Easy to check. Pull coil wire from distributor, remove dist cap, and hold 1/4-3/8 inch from engine. With ignition switch turned...

Re: Are you really a Model A guy?

To each his own, neat shirts. If someone wants to wear one, ok, if not, ok too.
This does sort of reminds me of my working days when some people wore a Hawaiian shirt to work every Friday. I...

Re: Frame straightening

OK, two ways of straightening the frame, heating and bending have been discussed. So exactly how does one do it with heat. Raise the body?? What do you use for heat, acetylene, propane, what?? Do...

Re: Barrett-Jackson

For the time being at least, this is still free capitalist country. If somebody wants to pay a mint or steal a car from an unwary seller, that's the way it is. As always, supply and demand over the...

Re: Timing

Yes, a 6-volt light connected from the points to ground will just begin to glow at 1-2 notches down.

Re: Connecting rod balancing

[I]To begin with, balancing rods or pistons is something that can be frustrating as you are removing very small amounts of weights and you often overshoot your target where that item now becomes your...

Re: 5.5 Snyder head, what else is needed or recommended?

Yes. Suggest you read post #23, he says 35 BTDC. I think he is more knowledgeable about this than I am. My car with a 5.5 ran fine at TDC until I got over about 30 mph. Then it started hammering. ...

Re: 5.5 Snyder head, what else is needed or recommended?

If this hasn't already been done, timing needs to be set 20-25 BTDC vs TDC to keep from beating engine to death at higher speeds. It took me quite a while to learn this. All the hullabaloo about HC...

Re: I'm looking for some insight !

You say the cars have NH titles. Is that a misprint, maybe should have been NC titles?? Whatever, I would get the titles in your name if not already. This will make for less trouble when you get...

Re: are disc brake conversions bad ?

Spend your money on restoring brakes to stock instead of cobbling and cutting to go to hydraulic.

Re: How to Get Model A onto Jack Stands in Preparation for Removing Rear End

I know it is probably just my phobia but jackstands scare the heck out of me. Much more work but I use cement blocks and 2x6 pieces.

Re: Model A in a Parade Questions

Key words here: "Should be no problem." That all depends on where you are in the lineup. If you're near the front, you can keep moving. If you're stuck in the middle or rear of a long lineup,...

Re: Title problem

You don't have to remove the body. You need to remove the left front fender, the running board and side splash pan, unbolt the steering column and loosen the body bolts. You can then jack the body...
