The regular V/8 60 trans has 4 bolts holding the shifter in place.
The commercial trans has the larger gears, and 6 bolts holding shifter.

Sometimes, dot 5 (silicone) will cause the switch to malfunction.
But the switches can malfuntion for other reasons too.

i would put in a mechanical switch for more reliability.

Yep hold a piece of copper, brass or even 1/4" thick alum on one side
of the hole and weld the hole shut, then remove your backer plate.
