Re: Mallory sbc to 8BA 4 lobe cam issues

Basically, if the distributor has two coil terminals, it uses one of the special coils or a "MagSpark" unit.

Re: Mallory sbc to 8BA 4 lobe cam issues

BY "NOS MagSpark", I assume you are referring to the distributor. Looking forward to seeing the pictures. I think the dash switch just cuts the ballast resistor in and out. I also have an extra 12...

Re: Mallory sbc to 8BA 4 lobe cam issues

Chris,

It looks like you have the components for a complete "MagSpark" unit. I have been grabbing every bit of Mallory documentation from the web I can find for the last 5 years and have a folder...

Re: 94 carb.

I would think that if you have to run 2 1/2 turns out, something isn't quite right.

Re: Let's build a drag race 8BA engine

Re: Generator or alternator ?

For a 6 volt system, a stock generator is fine. I have been running one on my '51 for 33 years without a single problem. Well OK, I had to replace the regulator once, but the generator was (and is)...

Re: Let's build a drag race 8BA engine

With all of this talk about getting more air (oxygen) into these engines, I have to wonder why Nitrous Oxide is not more popular.

Re: It’s a thing of beauty! But now some questions…

If you're referring to me, please do, as I have done several. I have a jig that you can use to bore the manifold and had a bunch of 1/8" aluminum plates made to seal off the bottom of the 2G, which...

Re: It’s a thing of beauty! But now some questions…

I'm a little confused. The purpose of using a Merc manifold is to allow you to use a larger 4 bolt base carburetor (usually a Rochester 2G). Why would you consider a "bigger bore 94" (which flows a...

Re: Off shore adjustable lifters

With the pricing information "GOSFAST" is providing, it does not surprise me that "Flathead Jack" would not try to inject himself into the situation to take advantage of it.

I remember being...

Re: Mallory sbc to 8BA 4 lobe cam issues

That's like the "MagSpark" I have. I find it interesting in that it has two ballast resistors that are on the distributor side of the coil. My "FlashFire" (for want of a better name) has only one...

Re: 49 Ford front glass

I think "mrtexas" is right. I did this in 1959 to my '51 and the only thing I remember was that it was easier than I thought it would be. The ones I usually remember are the ones that really fought...

Re: Mallory sbc to 8BA 4 lobe cam issues

That distributor may also be from a "MagSpark" setup. "MagSpark"'s are hard to find and obtuse, so I don't know much about them. I have a "MagSpark" transformer, and it also has three primary...

Re: Mallory sbc to 8BA 4 lobe cam issues

Charlie,

Yeah, the Olds type was "not so popular". The proper coil that I have for it is a 6 volt unit and I have been looking a couple of years for a 12 volt unit with no luck. I really don't...

Re: Mallory sbc to 8BA 4 lobe cam issues

I was referring to the distributor having a four lobe cam in case anyone is confused. To answer your question, I would never attempt to mount one of these by the bellhousing; I think that would be an...

Re: Mallory sbc to 8BA 4 lobe cam issues

Ron - Did you read my post where I stated that these distributors require a special coil with two primary windings? The coils were made by Mallory and have three primary terminals instead of the...

Re: Mallory sbc to 8BA 4 lobe cam issues

Charlie,

I have a flattop Mallory for an Olds Rocket that has a four lobe cam. The points are not wired together, each set having it's own terminal on the side of the distributor housing. This...

Re: front axle for 1934 Ford

There are a couple of guys on the H.A.M.B. that drop axles, so I am sure they can drop one to your specifications. "Okie Joe" is one of them, but I don't remember the others.

Best check over there...

Re: 50 Ford overdrive trans vs Mercury

Uh, "DD". The bottom transmission is not a '50 Ford. I don't know what it is out of (maybe a T85 if you're lucky), but "shoebox" Ford transmissions were "sideloaders', not "toploaders" like your...

Re: Scraping noise when turning

I had this problem with an MG once. I had just finished doing a valve job on it and on left turns it would make a scraping sound and wouldn't turn to full lock. When I took a look, I found a large...

Re: Flathead Ford V8 Being Built at Rouge Ford Plant

I think it's an accumulation from over several years. At one point, I saw the round, flat-top coils, which I think are '36, while some examples of the assembled engines are 21 stud, while others are...

Re: Eckler Hack?

I got one too, for some "Speed-Bleeders" that I checked out on Ecklers for the best price (they didn't have it). I think this is a computer "glitch" that turned some inquiries into orders. I checked...
