Re: Kingpin bushing driver

X2, absolutely the best. I like to fit them tight, so the pin just goes in.
They'll loosen up soon enough.

Re: Something a bit different oil tube in valley R&R.

I have used a 1/8" pipe die to thread the end of a bolt,
put that at the end of a slide hammer, screw that into the front of the tube and have at it, works well- three times.
Have not tried to put...

Re: Valve seat inserts.

I replaced all the valve seats in my 59AB.
Found washers that fit in the old seat, arc weld them in.
This shrinks them, they come out easily.
Measure the holes for size. Round, yes- but it's...

Re: No Thermostats

There is a type of thermostat that, if it fails, will fail open.
As I understand it's called a "reverse poppet" thermostat, but no one I've dealt with recognizes this term. They are as one would...

Re: Harley Davidson low pressure brake light witch

I recently replaced a stop light switch on a Harley Dyna, low miles.
It failed closed and that's with only one tail light to power.
I don't have a high opinion of them.

Or, 3.78. Got one in my garage, waiting.
Out of a 1947 or 1948 Merc.

Re: Falling out of 2nd gear

In the AV8, top loader transmission,
My solution was to put a much stronger detent spring in the the shifter/top.
Just in the 2nd-third side.
I do understand that this isn't the "proper way", BUT...

Re: 1939 Ford Flathead idle problem

I bought an intake manifold from a reputable source.
Turned out to have a hole between the carburetor heat-
under the carb, and the intake right under the carb.
Would have been a huge vacuum leak....

Re: barrel starter drive for flathead

My Dad bought an auto parts store in 1966
One of the old guys showed me how to reset the barrel type starter drive
On the very end, there are three places to put the end of a very sharp pencil,...

Re: Valve seat cutters

I used a split guide, and a 5/16" pilot (expandable) before acquiring the proper pilot for flathead.
For a smooth finish, try a bit of soapy water for a lubricant on the seat. I've used Simple...

Re: Should I?

I would acquire it, no hesitation.
Cost is relative to one's own effort, vs. hiring out the work.
I would dump the Datsun engine.
Hopefully, the truck hasn't been hacked so badly.
Put in a...

Re: Master cylinder

Harley Davidson uses these.
Size may be an issue.
Try an aftermarket car parts store?

Re: best 6v coil

I will suggest Bosch, blue coil.
I don't have a part number.

I think it's internal...

Re: Wheel studs

FYI,
One can also machine the stud knurled side to make it fit the hub and drum.
-I've done this on a drill press when without a lathe.-
The knurl length can be cut down, so that the lug nut can...

Re: Cross part number for 32 Inter axle seal

I have an (older) size chart for National seals.
With micrometer measurements, I can find a seal that works- for lots of things.
So can a lot of others.

Re: Rebuilt '39 Transmission quiz. How many issues can you find?

It's got the lid for the 91a gears,
got the 2-3 slider for the earlier transmission
What the inside measure for the 2-3 fork?
Minor note, missing the throw out fork.

Re: Hydraulic brake questions - 1932 Coupe

I didn't see Ritchard Lacy mentioned. He has a business,
may be called something like the V8 Garage, I can't recall.
I have seen one of his kit installs for a 1935 Ford,
it was really well...

Re: Intake Valve not seating

I may have missed this idea in the thread, but...
Using a compression tester that is too long,
The valve may hit the end of the tester, and bend the valve.
I've a vague memory of someone bending...

Re: Torque tube shortening recommendations

Mitchell Overdrive was kind enough to cut splines on a solid shaft for me,
might have been around 15 years ago. The turn around time is dependent
on their timing. They do a bunch all at once. Then...
