Re: Couldn't Resist It

Well, the teardown of the "opportunity" motor is complete. The mains are toast. Barely any oil grooves remaining, and very scored. Rod bearings usable, for a while anyway. looks like I end up with a...

Re: Couldn't Resist It

I wondered when that question would be asked. I've been charged with being the custodian of a '40 Fordoor for going on 40 years now. A gem of a runner that has rewarded me with many years of...

Re: Couldn't Resist It

All valves are trash, look like the lash was ground with a hand grinder. Half were burnt, all were ground to sharp edges. The cam shows peculiar wear due to the foot of the lifters have a hole in the...

Re: Couldn't Resist It

Update of the motor assessment. For those amused by my wrenching. Pulled the valve cover, and found all intake valves to be between .005 and .008. Cylinder 1 exhaust to be .035 plus. #2 exhaust...

Re: Couldn't Resist It

Very easily! Peeking in the plug holes, the valves sit real deep. No adjustable lifters, and lash is all over the place.#1 exhaust must be .050"

Couldn't Resist It

Opportunity Knocks, and I just had to have another to play with. Hoping to get lucky. Definitely not opened up in a Long time. It came with a transmission, and fully dressed. I'll check a few things...

Re: Flathead Alum Heads-Block Alignment

I guess my sentiment on the corosion of the sleeves comes from my experience taking down engines, and being surprised by the extent of corrosion on studs in engines that have been in service for only...

Re: Evolution of installing cylinder heads

I can give no empirical data to back up my feelings in the matter, but my gut has always told me; if they move, their loose, if they don't, leave them alone.

Re: Flathead Alum Heads-Block Alignment

Gary, I have my doubts as to the longevity of the aluminium sleeves. The wall thickness being very thin, I would think they would degrade through corrosion to the point they would add to future head...

Re: Pickup bed rivets...

Pluck, when restoring my truck I also found some of the needed rivets were either hard to locate or were non-obtanium. I made my own when necessary.

Example in point: you can take a common round...

I'm running an "A" distributor with the "B" point cam now with my new 6.1 compression head. It runs so nice, I for the first time since finishing the truck, really feel like I can take it anywhere.

Re: Valve spring issues

That is a big difference. 1/4" is a lot for springs. Why are you talking V8 valves and springs? Posting in the wrong board?
