Re: Bronze Model A Ford Rear Main Thrust Plate & Oil Seal installation

Sorry to be misleading in my initial post. The engine has not been apart since the '70s. I was driving it a little too hard on the toll road and afterwards is when I noticed the nocking. All of the...

Re: Bronze Model A Ford Rear Main Thrust Plate & Oil Seal installation

After completely disassembling, adjusting all the babbett's and reassembling, it still knocked. I sent the rods out to have the wrist pin bushings changed. When I was cleaning it up for reassembly,...

Re: Bronze Model A Ford Rear Main Thrust Plate & Oil Seal installation

The engine was rebuilt in the '70s, I doubt if they're still around. The car was in Napa for decades.

Re: Bronze Model A Ford Rear Main Thrust Plate & Oil Seal installation

Tonight I pulled the crankshaft and started whittling away. It took about 30 minutes with a breakaway utility knife. It almost looks like the end thrust was poured separately from the main bearing....

Re: Starter bench test spins slow

I figured out the problem. The brushes were loose on the field coils causing them to get hot and turn color. Quick disassemble, clean up connections, install heat shrink tubing and reinstall brushes....

Re: Starter bench test spins slow

Guys, thanks for the input. The bushings are tight enough and the only thing the looks like rubbing are the wiring for the brushes. They may have been polishing the end of the armature. See the...

Starter bench test spins slow

The starter on my 29 was spinning slow. 6 volt battery and all connections were fine. I installed my spare starter and everything is fine. Now I need to fix the slow starter. I disassembled the slow...

Re: Growling noise when clutch is engaged

That turned out to be the problem. I guess after my last 100 mile drive, my crankshaft endplay increased. I had one long starter bolt and it was hitting the flywheel. I guess that after swapping out...

Re: Growling noise when clutch is engaged

I just read that in Les Andrews book. That’s easier than removing the transmission. I’ll report back when I’m done adjusting.

Re: Growling noise when clutch is engaged

I removed the spark plugs and had my son slowly hand crank. It looks like the outer part of the throw out bearing is hitting the fingers on the pressure plate. The housing part of the throw out...
