Re: Horn relay sparks/install question

If the relay isn't connected to steering column or the horn and the only connection is the power wire and it sparks when touched to the fender panel, something isn't right with the relay.

Re: 39/40’ Tudor Sedan Glass

Try to look down between the glass and garnish on the other side; but with length of the track compared to the glass I would think it would be centered to clear the glass tracks.

Re: OT: What type wood between frame rails and truck box?

We used fir strips under van and stake bodies; then stepped up to oak strips under garbage bodies.

Re: Are 1934 and 1935 auot bumpers the same?

Friend got a good deal on some re-chromed '35 bumpers so we put them on his '33 using '34 irons. Note the double grooves.

Re: counterbalanced crank welds

While I'm not a Model A expert; on other equipment I've always had the crank, flywheel, and pressure plate balanced individually.

Re: Wheel Cylinder ID ???? 1940 FORD

While I'm far from an expert; from my experience '39-'41 fronts were 1"x1-1/4", '42-'48 fronts were 1"x1-3/8", and '39-'48 rears were 1"x1-1/8".

Now-a-days it seems all the front cylinders sold...

Re: Towing Capacity?

Maybe just have fun with your old truck; putting it back to work as a commercial motor vehicle may bring up all kinds of surprises.

Re: 46-48 front drum replacement, or??

On the other hand since the mid '50s; just about every production Bendix type backing plate has had a fixed anchor pin. I wonder if Wilson's anchor pin was miss-located for the shoes used.

Anyway...

Re: '46 mercury steering wheel trim

Good question; they were easy to pop off; but I haven't figured a good way to put them back. Someone once mentioned they r&r'd them; but did not respond to my question of "how'.

Re: Pins for holding door and window handles in place

I've used all kinds of things over the years; but I actually thought ahead a while back and included several packs of pins when I was ordering some stuff from C&G.

I didn't have to fool around...

Re: 46-48 front drum replacement, or??

You may be able to just taper the lower ends of the shoes if they turn out to be the problem and the radius is close. Here's a picture of an old shoe that has a taper. New shoes are sometimes a...

Re: 46-48 front drum replacement, or??

Seems odd the radius of the shoes would be the cause from your description. If so, I would think they would be tight just slipping the drums on. Never know.

Re: 46-48 front drum replacement, or??

Maybe things have changed; but a friend tried to buy some Boling Bros hubs; but they were on backorder. While I have never seen or used them; P&J have hubs that are listed as matching early Ford...

Re: 46-48 front drum replacement, or??

I would start out by shimming the drum with washers and putting a couple lug nuts on to see if spins free.

If that works, I would next check to make sure the backing plates are not bent; clamp a...

Well if you are going to use a 1" dual master on the stock pedal assembly operating Lockheed brakes, you better see how it does with a simulated failures of either the front or rear brakes; then...

Re: any pics of 36' fuse box installs and where?

Yes, that's the right name for the material, I keep thinking of it as bakelite.

I used a 1/4" thick piece so I could countersink the screws so the back was flat against the firewall.

Re: any pics of 36' fuse box installs and where?

I mounted a homemade bakelite breaker/fuse/ballast panel inside the firewall using the stock holes.

Re: Need help installing Universal Joint Repair kit.

Maybe assemble the joint and while holding in your hand smack the tight yoke with a hammer just below the trunnion on each side and see if that helps.

Probably have to wrap tape around it to keep...

Re: 35 3window glass channel question

5W is configured differently.

Rotate the picture (or hold your phone sideways) it will look better.

Re: 47 brake springs too tight!

Vise grips make gouges on the spring which can lead to failure; at least that I was taught.

Re: 47 brake springs too tight!

Make sure the shoes are in the wheel cylinder notches, rotated the adjusters back all the way, tighten a ratchet strap around the shoes, and use a spring pliers to pull the spring into place.

Re: FINALLY…T5 WITH Torque Tube in a ‘35-’40 Ford...The WHOLE STORY!

I suspect this thread has been viewed many times since '21; just no comments.

I have referred several people to this tread and I'm sure I am not the only one to do so.
