It most have a lot to do with what is, and how it is applied as one lining fell off. It may have been exposed to brake fluid ?

Removing bonded brake linings.

Suggestion for removing old bonded brake linings from good original '40 Ford rivet type shoes. 1 of them fell off, so it may not be to hard. Thank you Fordbarners

Thank you, I get the brake fluid honing idea, but which brake fluid since I am converting to DOT 5. Because 5 is synthetic I am not sure it would be good choice to hone with. Opinions, experience ?...

Rumble Seat, (bless his soul), recommended using cutting oil to hone with so you get a better finish. This may have been written before water based cutting fluids started to supplant oil/sulphur...
