Dump the Pertronix. Also if the engine backfired, you might want to check the integrity of the power valve.

You know #1 is on the passenger side and is not the forward most cylinder as in most engines. Sounds like you have them mixed up.

One of them is mine. It is presently having the top and interior installed. All original car, except for juice brakes, and is painted Washington Blue. I know of 1 more that Jim was not aware of.

I use the pipe thread sealant in all my builds. Probably 30 - 40 engines with no problems.

I've made my decision to use spacers and one extra plug washer totaling .210. Makes for a good fit.
