Re: Busted Crab but what happened?

Yes. 180* off. Picture on left is likely how the tab was misaligned 180* with cam slot. So tab didn't nest in the slot. Then when you tightened the bolts, the tab busted thru casting inside. Picture...

Re: What is this attached to the carb on 1936 Ford

If it was mine, I'd hafta remove the entire heater installation ASAP. Then carefully pack it away in a box. And store it somewhere just in case I ever want to use it for something. 8^) Jack E/NJ

I prefer wheel bearing grease cuz I've used it for decades on many engines without a single issue either putting them on or taking them off including composition. 8^) Jack E/NJ

Re: O/T paint can smoker question

>>>12 volt car battery.>>>

4 ohms should do it --- or maybe over-do it. Use a small alligator clip to test at different points along the nichrome. Jack E/NJ

Re: O/T paint can smoker question

Well, if you're using a 6v, it's only about 6 watts---night light power
12v would be about 24 watts---should start smoking.
110v, 2000 watts. Really smoking & blowing fuses.

8^)
