Re: Do YOU single-clutch ?

I single clutch going up and most of the time down shifting but double clutch if my speed it up when down shifting. My uncle could shift a model A without using the clutch at all, it was amazing to...

Re: Installation of parking brake coil spring ?

I think they put them on while the body is off on the assembly line which is how I did it, easier when standing over it than laying under it.

Re: Manifold

I have not tried it but I have heard of mounting the manifold that has sagged up side down and heating it really hot and putting a weight on the exhaust end and letting it sag back into proper...

Re: Separating Control Rod from Control Arm

The springs should keep things tight, a lot of the housings are cracked right behind where the shafts come out are painted and patched. Could there be a hidden crack in the column housing itself?

Re: Brass fuel shut-off valve binding.

I have rebuilt them and the least little rusty gas will kind of start clogging it up. It is just a brass cone that fits perfectly in the brass housing. there is a hole that lines up to allow gas to...

Re: Voltage Regulator??

Three brush delco remy uses a 2 point regulator which functions like a cut out and the 2 brush uses the 3 point regulator. Tractors used the same set up and there are documents and videos on line...

Re: Fun project voltage regulator

I have a delco remy generator and regulator hooked up but haven't done a first start yet. I found a lot of help on youtube as a lot of old tractors used that system and some sites and videos go into...

Re: What Model "A" Book Do You Read the Most?

I find the service bulletins to be where I look, there are many finger prints on the book and pages as it stays out with the cars.

Re: "Doodlebug"

Looks like may be a delco remy generator and regulator on the firewall. Very similar to what was on many tractors so if it works leave it. People with old tractors will be familiar with it, more so...

Re: Model A won't start

They may have done you a favor by letting the old gas out though probably not a safe thing to do.

Re: Starter switch gasket

It doesn't insulate the starter switch housing since it screws into the starter so I think the purpose could be in case something went wrong with the internal moving part, in case it broke, it would...

Re: Misfire and backfire when hot

What did you last work on just before it started acting up? I know it has gotten worse but just wondering if some of the history might be a tip off for what direction to look. I had a new condenser...

Re: connect the capacitor outside

Condensers are near the points in distributors for decades because they perform best at that location otherwise they would have put them on the firewall to start with, just like the coil.

Re: Zenith Carburetor linkage sticking and stiff

Could be the body is not on exactly right, high/low or left/right. I am working on an off road A with a model T cowl, the least little movement in the cowl will throw the choke rod out of alignment...

Re: No Spark

I would suspect the new parts. I had a new condenser from NAPA fail with just a few miles on it, I checked everything and thought it couldn't be the new condenser.

Re: oil level

They had 3 different oil pans and 2 different dip sticks that I know of so there could be some mis-matching but I can't figure how it could be that different from one to another.

Re: 28 Dash light intermittent operation

It isn't very complicated, just old. Do you know if it has the correct bulb in it? If it is getting too hot, a smaller bulb strength could be used, it depends on if you use 6v or 12v. It also depends...

Re: Need Help in Identifying Location of Short

Over the years when I would find a survivor car, very few times was the original switch and cable in use, they seem to have been a weak point in the model A, just like the fan blade.

Re: cowl

I see them in this part of the country for $300 on up. Here is one that has doors and upper parts, seems expensive to me. Of course I couldn't find one and had to use a 26 model T cowl for my...

Re: Clam Shell question .

The clam shells have at least 2 different bolt patterns, you may have the earlier one if the gasket doesn't line up.

Re: Need Help in Identifying Location of Short

Do you have the armored cable that screws into the distributor, looks like a big spring? A couple things to check if that is what you have, first and easy to check is where it screws into the...

Re: A Piece of Advice

My torque wrench was messed up, finally figured it out after I pulled a stud out of the block. Took it to my mechanic and he compared it to his and I was trying to torque to 125. Got a new one and...
