Re: Running on 3 1/2

Which oil drain hole in the valve chamber? I see 3 raised oil lines in bosses, maybe steel tubing lined, one in each chamber... Drains? What about the 1/4" hole on the floor of the front chamber and...

Re: 215 85 16s

This tonner I brought home from Twisp in Eastern Washington about 5 years ago has a set of recapped 7.50x17 michelin radials on the front. Two years ago I bought an unused set of the same tire on...

Re: Running on 3 1/2

I use my trucks around my place. I'm a Seattle native who raised 4 kids here on Orcas Island in the Puget Sound. I arrived here in '76, bought my 5 acres in '78. Paid 18 grand, busted out the chain...

Re: Running on 3 1/2

I have surfaced quite a few manifolds and other parts on my cast iron wood jointer's machined surface. I stick adhesive 80 grit sandpaper on it and chuff away. Before too long I have a nice gray new...

Re: Sheared starter drive bolt

Thanks! Just came in from the shop. Direct replacement. Wish all repairs and modifications were that straight forward. That starter drive interchanges from '28-'53. The year my mom was born until...

Re: Sheared starter drive bolt

So, a V8 drive will slide onto the A starter shaft? No redrill or tap?

Re: Running on 3 1/2

Funny you should ask... The manifold gasket I thought had it all buttoned up is leaking bad on #4 exhaust... Could easily be leaking on #4 intake. Just received new copper manifold gaskets with...

Sheared starter drive bolt

I went down to the shop after work to do the usual battle with this new to me AA cut down truck. Before I could deal with the issues I wanted to address The starter spun but didn't turn the...

Re: 215 85 16s

That's about when I first learned about radials. They seemed to start as a foreign car thing but in '69 I was working for a rich guy that put radials on his station wagon. More surprising to me was...

Running on 3 1/2

Been obsessed with this cut down log skidder/ junkyard wrecker. Tomorrow I will have had it a week. I have welded and reinforced so much of the structure and pressure washed it and lubed everything....

Re: What did I just buy?

I'm on a 12 v coil running through a ceramic resistor on the firewall. I have some early v8 condensors. What do I wire to and do I need to remove the condenser that's in there? Thinking the condenser...

Re: 215 85 16s

Didn't spoil my party one bit. Everything about these old rigs is way beyond the safety standards of today. Metal dash with knobs that stick out... Gas tanks at your knees or under the seat,...

Re: 215 85 16s

Is that tread width or section width? That's great to get some inside scoop about what that 'aspect ratio' is about.

Re: What did I just buy?

Could I just wire one up from something else to see? It also had an intake leak at the carb flange. I sanded the carb flange on my tablesaw top with some stick on sanding discs. Then I made a...

Re: 215 85 16s

There's nothing like having a bunch of 5 on 5 1/2 " early ford rims around the place. The newer ones with 'outie' hub cab nubs just look wrong.....

Re: Using 85 octane fuel

My grandpa Benjamin Bailey Sisson was selling model Ts in Wareham a few years earlier at Sisson's garage. He grew up in West Harwich. On Sisson road. While the Cape is a zoo in the Summer,...

Re: What did I just buy?

But then I'd have to come up with a title.....And in second gear it's about all I can handle. So far it has one brake. The right rear. Oh, and the band parking brake. No rods to the front. ...

Re: What did I just buy?

Well I got it back to the island on Thursday after work. Stayed up late working on it.... And woke up at 4am and decided to work on it some more before I had to head to the jobsite at 7:30. So far,...

Re: 215 85 16s

The width is probably very similar on thje 215s and the 205s. The 215s are an 85 series, and the lower the aspect ratio, the shorter and wider the tire. Right down to those 22" things that are...

Re: Do You Carry a Container of Gas in your Trunk?

I know this isn't within the scope of the original thread... But it has now evolved into the 'fuel safety thread'. I have a universal fit type poly tank in my woodie truck. It fits between the frame...

Re: 215 85 16s

Thanks! Looks like a good way to go. Here's a shot of my 'truck' with the 215s mounted up. I like the way they fill up the wheel wells, and with 30 psi they steer a bit harder when stopped, but the...

Re: 215 85 16s

Ran on 35 psi. Still a bit stiff. Gonna do the next run on 30. But.... I gotta say it stays so straight ahead between the ditches, running nice and true. I don't have any way to balance these, but...

Re: 215 85 16s

Yes Mark... 10 ply rating, but I dont think they really have ten plies (plys?). Radials always have that flexible sidewall. I don't know how wide my rims are but they mostly came from jailbar half...

Re: 215 85 16s

I'm going tubeless... You? Got the other two mounted after work tonight. Now all four bolted up. Supposed to be ok weather tomorrow and I'm playing hookey, so will file a report after the test-drive.
