Re: Where Have All of The Chevrolets Gone?

I was driving on 128 in Massachusetts with my 1933 chev, when a Model A challenged me to see who had the highest speed. I passed the Model A when he max out at 60 mph.

Oh to be young again!

Re: Where Have All of The Chevrolets Gone?

My first car was a 1933 Chev bought in 1967.

Never had axle problem and drove well.

My picture shows me with the car.

Re: Massachusetts Registration... HELP

First Step,

Normal plates mean that you can drive the car anytime you want. Also, the insurance will be higher than an antique car rate.

Antique plates (I have) limit your driving time per...

Realistic Driving In High Wind

Group,

Here on Cape Cod, we are often hit with strong winds off the ocean. I drove the Model A on route 6 while the winds were strong, hitting the car broadside. The other cars were O.K. at the...

Re: Gas with Ethanol or Pure Gas?

You can use what ever you want, but I would use any type of gas for the Model A.

I add some Marvel Mystery Oil to the gas and I have had no troubles that are related to stale gas.

By the...

Re: tillotson float valves

I saw a note on my rebuild kit to stake the float valve, but nothing to lap the valve.
Did the instructions say to lap the valve seat ?

Re: head that won't budge

I would not want to damage a useful hunting knife. Hopefully that knife's were not in good shape ?

Re: head that won't budge

I would suggest that you buy the head puller from Snyder's or Bert's.

Re: Yanked the electronic ignition

1929,

No...I just made a comment that modern-day electrical components have a real challenge in a Model A due to the electrical environment.

Re: Yanked the electronic ignition

The electrical environment inside a Model A is very, very noisy. As a past electrical engineer, I can say that I'm not surprised that today's solid state components would not perform well unless...

Teflon Tape On GAV Threads?

Group,

The GAV brass holder leaks where it screws into the Zenith carb. This is the part that the GAV needle valve screws into.

Can I use Teflon tape on the threads to stop the gas leak ? Its a...

I have a similar new float\needle seat with the same wording about needing a staking.

Good thing that John got an answer...

Re: Removal of Tillotson Throttle Shaft

Just got the shaft out. Liquid Wrench and using a punch with gentle blows and twisting worked.

The shaft and the bushing then received some extra fine sandpaper to help make the shaft turn better....

File or Heat Tilly?

Group,

Many past comments have stated that heating the Tillotson carb to remove warp is the best way to fix the problem.

I have a gap between the halves of the carburetor over the float bowl...

Re: trouble shooting

Some of the older gas caps did not have good venting. Try removing the gas cap and see if it runs O.K. If so, then you need a new gas cap.

With regard to your comment (post 4) that "nobody was able to help", I have to disagree as there were many good replies !

Removal of Tillotson Throttle Shaft

I'm rebuilding my Tillotson XF carb. After I remove the throttle plate, does the shaft just push out ? The choke shaft came out easy, but the throttle shaft is not moving with a simple...

Re: bolt toeque specs

It's not easy to know how much to tighten a nut. In the past, I would just tighten every nut as much as I could!

Many years later, I learned to use much less force, but it's still mainly...

You need to set the timing yourself, as that picture shows that the timing is wrong. Do you feel comfortable timing the engine yourself ?

Re: Amp Meter ??

The gauge of the wire that you use for the added wire determines how the amp meter scale is changed. High number does less, low number does more. The electrical term for the added wire is a "shunt"....
