Re: 1937 Flathead lost bolt... Help!

Maybe never really fell in but slipped outside, if not to the floor but somewhere in one of the recesses that would catch it.

Re: installing electric fuel pump in'39 piccup

What I am using for the same purpose is a lighted on/off toggle switch.
When switched on it is lit to give warning.
It may still work on 6 volts but with less illumination.
Switch is rated at 20...

Re: Engine swap

You are probably right, just don't recall doing it and considering that at the time in the early 50's, I had a pick of transmissions (from piles of them) ,I probably replaced it.
Also did the...

Re: Engine swap

Did a swap on a '38 standard many years ago.
As I recall removing rivets that attach the 60hp engine mounts were the worst part of the operation.
Believe that the motor mount holes for the 85...

Re: Oil return line plugged?

Sludge on the bottom of the canister will not effect the draining.
The oil returns via (2) .063 dia. holes in the center stand tube that are located about the same level as the input fitting on the...

Re: Dipsticks-no, not my kids

If you in fact know the oil capacity of the whatever engine configuration you are using, then when the engine is filled with that amount of oil, that will show where the level on the dipstick should...

Re: Picture of Holley carburetor float adjustment tool 9550-E

I suspect that this was a tool that was offered to dealership mechanics in the
'52-'53 time frame.

It would have worked on the '49-'51 885's also but I have not seen any reference to one in any...

Re: engine is a quandary

It should be obvious that the rings have worn appox. .040 dia. to give the .125 end gap condition with minimum wear on the cylinders.
Sounds like it could be a candidate for a rebuild like we used...

Re: Bronze valve guides??

Have never had seized valves in my flatheads after sitting and not running for a long time.
Maybe if you have 20 or30 year long winters it may happen.

Re: 6v bulbs

What number bulb are you using?

I believe the standard #1154 bulb is what was originally used.
There are 100's available on Ebay and even from Napa.

Re: How do I remove this heater switch knob?

Just a tip, any of these push on type knobs etc. I have removed, I lightly coated the mating surfaces with Di-electric grease before reassembly. (makes any future removal easier)

Re: Exact Engine Year

Suspect that with a 3.25" bore the engine has seen possibly a few rebuilds and has been assembled with a mish-mash of different parts meant for other year applications.

Re: Spark Plug reach into head - Is this normal?

This is what an H-10 plug with 7/16" reach looks like installed in an EAB head.
Yours should be OK.
