Modern day vans are also affected by side winds, my 2005 Dodge Caravan certainly is. My 31 chevy 4 dr. is really bad but my 34 ford pickup with radials handles pretty good.

If it were mine I would keep it stock with the Mercomatic, The other alternative would be 3 speed manual with overdrive which I personally like. Just my 2 cents.

You may have to bend the bracket a little to make it fit ( I had to on mine) but definitely use it.
