I installed one in a '40 several years ago.
13" out of the torque tube & driveshaft, plus a little crossmember surgery made a great combo.
Mine had a 26 tooth gearset.

The hub interface between the top bell of the '40 & later column & the taper of the banjo wheel is an ugly mis match.

I have the Drake 3 sided door seals on my '40 coupe. Been there for about 10 years.
They help, still not completely quiet at speed. That's where the earplugs come in to play.

Also, when Drake was selling '40 sheet metal he offered a driver's side door or a doorskin with the lock feature already installed.

At one time Bob Drake sold a retrofit drivers side keyed door lock assembly.
Is this car a recent purchase for you? Perhaps a previous owner installed it.

The wheel probably has been "sliced" to more closely match the cup on a '40 & later Ford column.
I have done this in the past.

To use the 42-48 style fan,the radiator needs to be raised. The new fan location would saw the '40 upper radiator hoses into pieces.
I have seen the later fan location used by making the fan blades...

I've used TCP acrylic enamel a few times. Color match not spot on, but the product worked very well.

Even if you "crutch" it with an electric fan, and it is still 6 volt the 6 volt generator won't keep up.

Actually, 1942 Ford & Mercury oil gauges were 50 lb units
1946 began 80 lb units.

As Abe stated I would inspect your heater fro any faults in that area .The Magic Air pictured was converted to 12V and spun up very w/ maximum out out . New 12V direct drop in...
