Re: Fordomatic: Are there different output shafts for different Fordomatics?

Never mind. I took another run at it and got the drive shaft installed.

Fordomatic: Are there different output shafts for different Fordomatics?

Do different Fordomatics have different output shafts with a different number of teeth or size? For example, would the output shaft from a truck have a different number of teeth than a Thunderbird?...

Re: Air filter assembly does not seem to fit on my 292

I think you are right, I think I have a 1955 air cleaner. The funny thing is the previous owner beat the heck out of it to put a dent in it to clear the choke. I was able to fiddle with it to...

Air filter assembly does not seem to fit on my 292

The saga continues. Iím wondering if there are different (but similar) air filter assemblies for Teapot carbs on a 292?

The one that was in my 1956 Thunderbird is hitting the heater control valve...

Re: Replacing Teapot carb on 1956 T-bird

I thought I read on a forum that distributors from later Fords would work on a 1956 Y-block. I thought I even read one from a 1965 289 Mustang would work. Do you know if that is true? Might be a...

Re: Help in identifying tube with fittings for 1956 Thunderbird

Thanks. No wonder I couldn’t remember, I did the brakes 2-3 years ago while I was as waiting on the transmission to be rebuilt. If memory serves me, I had some firmest issues and just used the old...

Help in identifying tube with fittings for 1956 Thunderbird

I canít figure out where this tube is supposed to go. The outside diameter is 3/16Ē. The length is about 12Ē. If you zoom in you will see some kind of sleeve that I assume is to protect it from...

Re: Iím getting close to trying to start my 1956 bird after a lonnnnng ordeall

Reply to Kultulz - I'll try to answer your questions. As you can tell from my earlier posts, I'm no expert but I will describe what I understand:

The reason I'm converting to an electric choke...

Re: Iím getting close to trying to start my 1956 bird after a lonnnnng ordeall

As I said in my previous post, there is no hot exhaust air going to the choke as the outlet tube normally going from the intake to the nipple on the bottom of the choke housing is not installed.
...

Re: Iím getting close to trying to start my 1956 bird after a lonnnnng ordeall

In my case, the hot air tube is not connected. That is the reason Iím converting to an electric choke. I am plugging both ends of the heat tube in the intake and going with the electric choke.

I...

Re: Iím getting close to trying to start my 1956 bird after a lonnnnng ordeall

I apologize for coming back with so many questions. I think I am following you but want to be sure.

When you say "Heated air is drawn into the original choke mechanism of the carburetor by...

Re: Iím getting close to trying to start my 1956 bird after a lonnnnng ordeall

Thanks for all your suggestions . Just a couple of questions for clarification:

Re: Iím getting close to trying to start my 1956 bird after a lonnnnng ordeall

Well I do like the exhaust manifold idea better than the clamp-on type or removing the intake to do it right. It’s just that I am so close now, I can’t stomach tearing it all apart to remove the...

Re: Iím getting close to trying to start my 1956 bird after a lonnnnng ordeall

I think I will look at converting to an electric choke. I found a good video by Mike’s Carburetors that showed how to do it. It looks like the easiest solution. I’ve got some questions in to him...

Re: Iím getting close to trying to start my 1956 bird after a lonnnnng ordeall

Thanks to all for the pointers. I now know why I was confused and didn’t have the outlet tube (passenger side) tube. The hole was blocked off with a bolt (see 1st picture). Good news: I can see...

Re: Iím getting close to trying to start my 1956 bird after a lonnnnng ordeall

I was thinking about this all night worrying I would have to take apart all the stuff I’ve just done and remove the intake to fix this. (I thought maybe I should just set it on fire and collect the...

Re: Iím getting close to trying to start my 1956 bird after a lonnnnng ordeall

I’ll check in my box of parts to see if I have the outlet tube. (there are very few parts left) I know I’ve never seen the insulator but I’m not surprised. The old engine did run, so should I assume...

Iím getting close to trying to start my 1956 bird after a lonnnnng ordeall

After almost 5 years of trying to fix the Frankenstein 1956 T-bird I bought, I’m almost ready to see if it will start. I just have a few things to button up.

One thing is on my old engine a small...

Re: Front engine mount for 292 Y-block

Dang, there were so many things changed on my bird by previous owners, I never know what I have. Since I was putting in a new engine, I decided to order a new water pump for the 292 because I didn’t...

Re: Replacing Teapot carb on 1956 T-bird

OK, I’m convinced to stay with original plan to stay with Loadamatic dizzy and Teapot carb if or until I run into problems with the Loadamatic or Teapot carb.

I’m getting close to installing the...

Re: Replacing Teapot carb on 1956 T-bird

Re: Replacing Teapot carb on 1956 T-bird

I’ve heard that it is much easier to keep the modern carbs adjusted and running well. I am only looking for a decent driver, not a fully restored or show car. I thought that by keeping the correct...

Replacing Teapot carb on 1956 T-bird

Iíve read a good deal about the benefits of upgrading to a 1957 or later carb or even a modern Holly or Edelbrock carb on the 1956 T-bird. Most of the talk was around the need for a new distributor...
