Re: 40 Ford Brakes

For the reasons stated, it is best to leave the Lockheed fixed-anchor brakes on the rear. In an emergency stop and/or on wet roads, the rear Bendix brakes will lock up more readily. When the...

Re: 69a Block Oil Gallery Crack. Centre bearing

I've heard reports about cracks in the center main bearing web but I've never actually seen a block with a crack there -- just about everywhere else but not there. Would be nice to see a photo.

Re: Front Fender Braces ID

Bill,
Thanks very much for the info. I'm not a Model A guy and thus have no need for these. I'll post these in the For Sale section. Hopefully, someone will need them.

Front Fender Braces ID

This pair of front fender braces is a mystery to me. They closely fit the contour of a Model A fender but the mounting to the frame is not typical Model A. I'm not a Model A expert so would like to...

Re: Pat McFarlane RIP

I always looked forward to seeing Pat at the various EFV8 Club meets and Hershey. I learned a lot from him, not only about 32 Fords but also about perseverance and how a positive outlook is...

Re: late flathead in early chassis, hoses.

The lower hose depends greatly on the vertical positioning of the engine. For my 8BA in a 32 frame, I used a Gates 20151 (49-53 Ford) and shortened it a bit. The 20151 has 1/4" less offset than the...

Re: 32BB truck parts needed

The Ford Chassis Parts books include the big BB trucks in addition to passenger cars and commercial vehicles. These have very helpful diagrams and a list of part numbers. Also, the 32-36 Engine...

Re: KR Wilson Steering wheel puller

The one on Ebay is a BV-21. It differs somewhat from the VZ-194 which is listed in the 1940 KRW catalog for all 39 and earlier cars. Maybe the VZ-194 is an updated version of the BV-21, redesigned...

Re: Jack recall, chinese junk from Harbor Freight

USJack makes 3, 6 and 12 ton jack stands made in the USA: www.usjack.com
Also, Snap-on says their 3 and 6 ton stands are made in the US.
The USJack units have a two-tooth locking system which...

Re: Jack recall, chinese junk from Harbor Freight

An internet search provides some info on the ever-changing status of COO (country of origin) for various tool brands. Not the full story by any means, but some interesting info is at the following...

Re: '40 rear backing plate E brake

The e-brake cable tube is available from MT Products (http://www.bolingbrothers.com/).
They were also listed in Bob Drake's catalog not too long ago.

Re: '32 front wheel bearing spacer

I got some spacers from MT/Bolling Bros. a couple of years ago. These were definitely not repurposed valve seats but (supposedly) made specifically for the spindle conversion. I have not installed...

Re: Resperator Production

Lots of message manipulation going on. The Detroit News has published a few in-depth articles over the past week on the auto industry's involvement in respirator production. GM's voluntary effort...

Re: Overheating Flathead

Some initial thoughts:

The radiator appears to be good. It is lowering the coolant temperature (top to bottom) by about 40 degrees. However, it would have been a bit more accurate to measure at...

Re: Few Tips While Machining the 8BA Blocks

19Fordy,

Looks like that ear on the bellhousing flange was broken and repaired. A bit surprising since they look pretty beefy. What do you figure caused it to break?

I used Roy's paint on an early V8 trans case a couple of years ago. It was a much darker than I expected and much darker than I'd seen on any of the restored cars on the concourse field. When I...

Re: Old transmission..... New transmission

Exactly. The severely chipped teeth on the rear side of the sliding gear and the cracked case at the rear are clear evidence.

Re: New products thread??

I echo what V8Coopman said in post #7. A thread of new parts available would be of great value. The thread should also include not-so-new but not-widely-advertised parts by small-volume producers...
