We just did the same thing. The motor is a 276 cu. in. With isky max one cam and Motor City Flathead heads. It has a B&M blower and Holley fuel injection.
It also ran hot with a new aluminum...

I have had to surface several of the heads especially the 6-1 heads fresh out of the box.
I dont know what the time frame is between the casting and machining or if there is a heat treat process...

Its all gearing. Lower the rear end ratio to tow. Remember there were lots and lots of tow trucks made all the way to 1964 built with 292’s in them.

A plasma cuter would do a pretty good job of getting them down close enough to grind.
See if there is a mobile guy near you. Or see if you can rent one.

I had one like this come in and the fix was a different crank with oil...

If you look at the pictures of that cam there is an SU in front of the 4 which would make sense. SU 4. It might be someone’s copy of a Winfield, that was done a lot. Maybe that’s why the X

Is your coil wire to the distributor facing up or down? A lot of the new coils are oil filled and only like to sit upright with the coil wire in the up position. When on their side ir upside down the...
