If it starts and drives, there is combustion and so there must be compression of some sort. I also would suspect the gauge, not the engine.

I used the spare tire mount bolt. I got one at the hardware store that was 1/4 or 1/2 inch longer to accommodate the extra spacing. I used a grade 8 bolt.

I would not shoot any WD 40 under the dist cap. Before doing anything check to see if you are getting any spark at all, and if not at lest get it to spark.

The ones you call "conical" might be the switch that is offered as an inexpensive replacement on-off switch if the pop-out switch is missing or not existent. Without pictures of what you are seeing...

Without a thermostat on an 80 degree day, I am getting about 150-160 just this week-end. I took my 160 degree thermostat out at least for the summer. It is great in the winter and keeps the car...
