Re: car for sale sites

Common courtesy and common sense seem to be uncommon these days and so far we've been unable to teach or legislate either.

Re: Help ID'ing and Locating a '37 Big Truck Seal

I generally make gaskets when I need them. For that one I'd carefully remove the old one and trace it onto a new piece of gasket material and cut it out using scissors and gasket punches. Wouldn't...

Re: Before and After

So far this has been my one and probably only Ford project. Only took four years of working on it just about every day.

Re: rear signal lights.

I just installed two element sockets in the taillights and park lights on my 45 commercial, not difficult and it doesn't alter the look of the vehicle.

not a Ford flathead but from that era

A while back I asked for help/information regarding what type of gear oil to use in an old Cat grader, with your help I settled on NAPA GL-1. Thought you might like to see the old yellow iron. She's...

Re: Finally got it to not overheat!

Way to go!

A good example of working through a problem methodically and correctly diagnosing what or what not was occurring. It seems, at least to me, that today there precious few that have the...

Re: Alternator to generator conversion

Guess I'm behind the times I can't see any reason to change from the 6 volt positive ground generator to anything different. My truck starts and runs just fine just like it did when new in 1945.

Re: Remote master cylinder fill

I added an extension to the filler opening and that made it much easier to fill without spilling.

Re: Relocating condenser

By moving the condenser from the distributor to the coil you have moved it to a cooler location (temperature wise) and at least for me they last much much longer. I was changing them sometimes after...

Re: GL 1 oil

Ordered 10 gallons of 90 wt GL-1 from NAPA and will flush and refill the transmission case in the next few days. Need to build a hex wrench to remove the drain plug before I can drain it. I'm hoping...

Re: GL 1 oil

If I were closer I'd take you up on it. I do appreciate the thought.

Thanks again for the thought.

Re: GL 1 oil

I just got off the phone with Warren Lube tech support and they told me that their GL-1 was what I should use. Hope they're right as I'm going to buy quite a bit of it as the transmission needs just...

Re: Pickup bed

When one of my Dr's says to make another appointment at what ever the time interval is, 3 months, 6 months or a year, I take that as a good sign that they expect me to last at least that long,...

Re: Pickup bed

On my 45 pickup there were rectangular rubber pads between the box frame and the pickup frame. Mine had a later box on it when I got it but I assume that the pads were what was used originally to...

Re: GL 1 oil

No tractor supply here and I'm not sure what you put in your transmission.

I've talked with Peterson Cat they had no one that knew what to use but they would be happy to sell me what they have in...

GL 1 oil

Anyone know where I might find information about the applications of the different rated gear oils specifically GL-1 and GL-4. I need to replace the oil in a 1953 Cat motor grader transmission though...

Re: Lawson -- is this you?

I once got an e-mail that purported to be from the son of close friends stating he was in Russia and had been robbed of all his cash and credit cards and need me to send him $1500 so he could get...

Re: Great Race Bishop June 2019

Saw them when they stopped overnight in Bend, Oregon. I too liked the early Hudson race cars. Way too many modern cars, read that as non-flathead engines, to keep me super interested. Would liked to...

Re: any workshop manuals available for my '41 PU

Watch the "For Sale" section here or better yet place a "wanted add" there, you never know what might turn up. I found a factory repair manual for my 45 truck there.

Re: Old Herbrand Tool for pulling heads off Flathead V8's.

Interesting tool. If there is a patent number on it you can look up the patent application on-line and it should have a good description of how it works. That's how I identified the armature lathe I...

Re: Finally! Something to smile about

Looking good.

A lot of people never get past the tear it apart stage as they discover the restoration of an old vehicle is a lot of hard work. If your heart is in it you will get it done.

Keep...

Re: D-Day

I worked with a one of the paratroopers that jumped in to Normandy the night before the landings. He once told me that after that not much of anything scared him. That statement said a lot about what...
