Re: The Ron Thorne Collection

I plan on going to the sale, hope to keep my hands in my pockets! Those are some fine looking automobiles!

Re: Motor Mount Replacements for 40

Laying on the bench, waiting for corn head grease to arrive. Motor has to come forward 6” to be able to “pack the u-joint”, then the motor mounts can be secured. I will tighten the motor mounts to...

Re: Motor Mount Replacements for 40

"You are correct sir", as Ed McMahon used to say. That is precisely the fix. This kit is from VanPelt and the bolts are 3 1/4" long. After trimming the smaller diameter piece on the grommet, it...

Re: Motor Mount Replacements for 40

I will check that out. I hope that is the fix. I will be at the shop tonight and take a closer look. Would have been nice if there was some directions in the package.

Re: Truck Engine I brought home

I was just at a machine shop asking the young man (about 60 yo) if he worked on flathead V8’s and he laughed and said “no, I am basically a head machine shop now unless it is his own”. I asked him...

Re: Motor Mount Replacements for 40

Why would the taller rubber pad even be produced? I own them so I am pretty sure that I am cutting them down to fit.

Re: Motor Mount Replacements for 40

Why would vendors sell bolts that are too short? For $20, I can cut 1/4” off the rubber, what’s the difference? $20!

Motor Mount Replacements for 40

What’s the deal with making the new replacements work? The bolt on the old ones are the same length as the new ones, the rubber is taller. How do you compress the new mount? Or do I cut it?

Re: 39 engine colors (Assume 60&85HP are the same)

CG Ford has the correct paint for $7.99 per can. I just sprayed my engine and one can is all you need. I bought three, I guess I’ll paint some stuff green around the house.

Re: Engine Ready to Install

The engine was taken out running smoothly. The issue was originally to take the transmission out, send it to Mac VanPelt, new clutch, resurface the flywheel. I learned a lesson about flywheel...

Engine Ready to Install

Interesting the big chunk out of the crankshaft. What are your thoughts on that? The bore measures 3.2475 which is .060 over what I expected. I expected the "59" to be 3.1875.

Re: Pulling the Engine to Remove Flywheel on 40 Convertible

Got the engine out, the flywheel wouldn't clear over the dowels, I went to Duck Duck Go and and an old Ford Barn thread popped up and as soon as I rotated the crank to get the dowels at 9 & 3 the...

Re: What Model is This 56

I still have the original dog dish hubcaps as shown in the above picture. I replaced them with baby moons of course. The 56 is long gone, but the hubcaps remain! I also have a set of the “full...

Re: What Model is This 56

As I remember, mine did not have the stainless strip across the fenders and doors. I have an old girlfriend who has a picture of the actual car, think I should call her and ask? Ha ha, probably...

What Model is This 56

What is this called? A Mainliner? I had a car exactly like this when I was 16 in 1964. 272, three on the tree (for a while) two door post. It was really engine smoke and not burning rubber going out...

Re: No Thermostats

Excellent. Not sure what I was thinking, of course they are mechanical. I think I can get an oil pressure gauge with a copper line. Thanks.

Re: No Thermostats

Are those gauges 6 volt or are they 12 volt “stepped up” to run on 6 with a converter?

No Thermostats

Removed all the peripheral components in preparation for pulling the engine from my 40 convertible and I found no thermostats. No wonder it never got the temperature gauge to move very far. My...
