Re: Gas shutoff valve

I don't understand the thinking here. If rust flakes were to gather at the bottom of the tank, the home made filter would work just as well. The fuel would just enter the valve from above the rusty...

Re: Gas shutoff valve

Benson: You are correct about pencil filters from vendors leaving some gas in the thank and then having to catch that last little bit whilst removing the shutoff valve.
Here's my home made pencil...

Re: Gas shutoff valve

Funny coincidence. I just went through this. I drained the tank by disconnecting the INSIDE gas line at the shut off valve, switching ends, and it drains nicely into a 2 gallon gas can on the...

Re: Mitchell transmission or overdrive

I ordered a 26% Mitchell two weeks ago for our Tudor with stock 3.78 rear end gearing. . I've had an old Borg Warner overdrive in the car since the late 1980's. Last fall the Borg Warner made a...

Re: Ormond Beach, FL, Model A estate sale

I've always believed that Model A parts were fairly scarce in Florida. Not so, by the looks of this auction. If any of those gas tanks are good, it might be a good time to pick up a spare?

Re: Copper Gooseneck gasket

Copper gaskets are tricky, as you know. Placing a Paper match stick to the outside of both head studs before tightening minimizes breakage. In May of 29, reinforcing ribs were added to the stud...

Re: 1928 Phaeton Cowl

Yes, and fender welting is used between the pillar post and cowl panel, straight over the top of the gas tank and down the other side as far as the splash apron.

Re: Hemmings Article

You mean the issue with the 29 Phaeton on the cover? I read the entire article and thought it was quite good.

Re: 1928 Phaeton Cowl

Not exactly sure where you are having problems, but here are a couple photos of my 29 Phaeton, which is identical to your 28, and same as 28-9 roadster. The cowl panels are original on this car, so...

Re: Something drifternt

Two stroke Detroit diesels? I run a 1979 Chevy Bruin grain truck with an 8-71 two stroker. In the fall when I haul grain it wakes up the neighborhood. But like Brent, I also prefer a Model A at...

Re: Front Motor Mount

Yes. Those old, era aftermarket front mount spring assemblies are too stiff, and so the hand crank will not line up with the front pulley when inserted through the hand crank guide over the front...

Re: Stearing sector problems

I rebuilt a 7 tooth sector recently with a new worm and sector shaft and had the same result. Steering lash isn't bad, but not zero either. So are the repro sectors and worms the problem?

Re: Running board anti squeak.

On page 13-13 Revised 2016 RGJG, in the italicised comments at the very end of the running board section, it mentions an anti- squeak webbing used between the running board and bracket, and I quote,...

Re: What is a dash?

I will defer to Bratton's catalog on this one. In the world of Model A's, the "dash" panel is Part #16720 for 28-29. And 16730 for 30-31. It is held onto the front of the gas tank with 4 10-32...

Re: 30 roadster top colors?

Forgot to mention that the body color of the car is irrelevant to the top material or color. If you want to match or coordinate your Washington Blue body to top color, that's your call.

Re: 30 roadster top colors?

Deluxe or Standard? Standard 30 roadster tops were black long-short grain artificial leather. Deluxe 30 roadsters used either tan canvas, sometimes referred to as Hartz cloth, or an olive drab...
