I would clean it up , wash it down with gunk or kerosene, lube the handle and wheels ( star ) put it under pressure and see if it still happens . I've had them lock up like that when the frame was...

Radiator cap 0 or up to 7 psi . Steel flat washers used with aluminum heads under nuts . Permatex works for me . I also spray the head gaskets with silver paint , couple of Coates , both sides ....

If I missed it I apologize, you have a 8" . Easy way to tell is the very bottom nut can be removed easily with a straight extension and a socket . The 9" requires a swivel socket as the pinion dips...

I still spray the gasket , both sides with aluminum paint . And use a thin layer of grease on the surface . Never had any leaks and I've built dozens if not more when I was employed.

Do check the welds on the axle tubes to center section and the weld on the center section. I've seen a few leak from them .

Can you fabricate a blow gun with 1/4" brake line and bend it to get around some interference, just keep blowing , it should at least make it more visible by blowing oil off it . Hopefully it'll blow...
