On a stock motor the 94's will probably run better. If you must go to a single carb, get a one carb manifold. The motor will be much happier and you won't drive yourself nuts trying to tune a dual...

The varnish really should clean out with the lacquer thinner without having to resort to some sort of acid treatment. Give it a chance first before taking any more drastic steps.

Beautiful ride. Love the colors, and the v8/4sp is a wonderful combination. How did you manage to find a sunny day to take pictures in Seattle? Those are almost more rare than than the wheels :)

Yes...It's a bloody stupid question. My apologies in advance for ignorance. With that out of the way, what purpose does the threaded adjustment to the right of the accelerator on a '39 pickup...
